EMM is an entitlement management message and comes down in the stream to check to see what programming you're paying for according to your camID and what you actually should be getting. In this case, if you're detected as a tester, an invalid tier is written to your card. Now, here is the really good part: If the invalid tier is detected on your card (using a separate sat command in the stream), then an operand 52 instruction is sent to your card...which we don't have documented as a valid instruction. This command wreaks havok with your card and causes the error 153 on the receiver.

We have seen this before, and as of right now I believe that this latest ECM mechanism following the form of a previous ECM is speculative, but I trust mili's judgement...

If I've stated anything incorrectly or inaccurately, somebody please chime in and correct me...we're all always learning...

Hope the info helps though, Hillbilly...

very much.
basically then, they get your card to mess with the receiver.
nice! is that how the digital locks for some were infultrated?
i was also wondering why some got the ecm and others did not. i did not. i am still running. my guess is the type of blocker the person chose to use. not sure wat i have, buddy did mine(just got my loader). my situation is that i lost ppv nite before, and i think thats y i am still running, but not sure. also noticed that alot of the people posting had 3900. does the mo0del ird matter for these emm64?
thanks

From what I understand, people running the old Penga NoMoreEMM blocker got through this latest ECM, while those running other blockers got hit.

Model ID does not seem to matter...I've seen reports of 2x00, 3x00, 4x00, 301s, and 520/1 series receivers all being hit.

As far as getting around digital locks goes, the only ones I've seen take a spanking are the autoreset locks...somehow this ECM bypassed those and killed the receiver firmware...those running traditional locks just have to pull the card and reinsert to get back up and running.

As of now, I don't think it's been absolutely determined what Charlie was targeting...some say PPV strings or blockers, but then I've seen reports of people running blockerless ROM2 cards with no PPV strings that have been hit. I think the original theory that mili proposed of invalid tiers or that along with PPV strings or blockers may be a more realistic guess...
