ok so single chip 301.013 vid mod and topside jtag.
I open jkeys and I get a device ID and a device, but I have to manually select the IRD model #, and when I do I get a bull shit IRD# and FFFFFFFFFFFFFF for box keys.
Someone please help, it's been 5 hours on this tonight alone.

upon further review it looks like jkeys is not recognizing my chip. I have tried 4 different versions of jkeys. what do I do?

Don't shout me down...but are you certain your topside JTAG is attached to the proper points?
I use JKeys 301.013C for that particular receiver...
Using a battery powered JTAG? Batteries fresh?

simple jtag home made, the only thing I am unsure of is the pin 20 ground I have going to 18-25 on my DB25, not sure if this is right.
Also have r79 grounded, and sb35 going to the spot

Are you getting R00-0000-0196 for ird number? If so make sure you have selected single chip 301 in jkeys receiver models. 301c auto detects this. Also it could be a dual flash 301 -013 too, Bulids Dac_ and Daj- are duals.

R00-0000-0196 - YES
How do I know what build it is?

Jtags main ground? Anything on that row other than 20. r79 takes care of pad one, same thing. Download Jkeys 301c from files, It will correctly read that 13. Your jkeys is reading it as a 005 or 010 type dual, You could try clicking on the ird model box after and see if it can be dropped down to single tsop 301 model, If it has that then the ird and boxkeys will appear properly, Otherwise just dl and use 301c jkeys.
Build will be on a sticker on the mainboard. If your's needed the vid mod it will be DAL_ or later.

On the jtag port with 20 pins, 20 is ground.....I use it all the time, I just ohmed out all the rest of the top row, the entire top row, 2-20, even numbers all read continous with ground, but I use 20 only.

It goes through R67 to ground, But if it works thats the important part, Never tried it myself. Atually it could be possible that may reduce ground loops on non buffered jtags.
Good morning Skinerd.

Birdie, look at pin 20 again, it's on a large ground pad, covers a large area, reads dead short to ground, 0.0 ohms. I have used it for every receiver I have jtagged from above or below in the case of phone line jtags, well over 100 receivers jtagged with pin 20 as ground.

Birdie, can you help clarify this issue for me? I was under the impression that ALL .013's (single TSOP) needed the VidMod in oder to use the new ROM10x plastic or a MC. The rec. I have has a sticker with DAHD on it. I recently ordered a MC from Mili but I have not completed the VidMod yet. Everything popped up when I jtagged with 301c.
So my question is...Does the build in this rec. require that I do the VidMod or are there indeed some single chip models that don't?
If this covered someplace else here, please accept my apologies & point me in the right direction if you would be so kind.
Thanks for all the help. You folks Rock!!!!!!

The build config does not nescessarily determine the need for a vid mod, the determining factor is the contents of 7FFFFFAC, if it's 0000 then no mod needed to use the blue or MC cards. Normally DAHA(D) does not need to be modded but if 7FFFFFAC is not 0000, it will.

I think I got the problem fixed (I hope) . Wanna know what I did? I TOOK IT TO A DEALER!
he's gunna charge $50.00 to vidmod, and restore my flash. He will supply me with the IRD# and the BoxKeys. No bad I guess, IRD 100.00, dealer 50, so for 150 up and running.
Also he said he would mark the board so I could wire a junkyard fix to an external toggle and I would never have to Jtag again.
thanks for everyones help though, I will let you all know

I tried many, many times to use a buffered unit I bought on eBay a couple years ago & had absolutely no luck at all.
I finally went to rat shack & bought the few parts to try making my own. It popped-up the first time I tried. I used Jkeys 013c version. I'm not sure if I was hooking up incorrectly or if the jtag is bad. I've also been reminded several times to make sure you have a good ground.
I took some pictures of what I did. They're posted below. Hope you are able to see what I did. It's not pretty & I still need to "clean things up a bit", but it did do the trick. ;-)
Good luck.

Thanks Skinerd. This is an awesome little piece of info.

Birdie, I just noticed yous fixes for the ECM on the 2800, it states "JY SB 39 to SB40 13 seconds with no card " Is this the jumpering of two test points in the IRD. Sorry but I'm completly clueless on the ecostar units, I have done many mods on the DTV units, just started on Dish, could you direct me to the proceedure to fix the ECM on a 2800, I installed a serial connecter perminantly the unit and it worked fine for saving the TSOP, but after the ECM, all I get is 00000x00 unknown processor.

hey Ludster, where did you run the ground to from the DB25? also did you jump R79 to ground as well?

The ground from the DB25 is just clipped onto the rec. case/frame. I haven't (& it doesn't appear that I will have to) made any attachments to/from R79. One more thing to check is to make sure all of the grounding tabs from the case to the board are making good contact.

Does he mean on the side of the case? the ones I bent out of the way to remove the board from the case? I assume that they are making contact since I bent them back, but do they all have to touch?

I don't know for sure, but I would try to make sure they all touch.
