I have read every post in here about Jtaging my 301.013, even posted my own questions.

but half of the poeple say ground pin 20 on the jtag board, the other half say nothing about it.

If you look here http://www.bellexpress.vu/vidmod.html you will see no mention of grounding either R79 or any of the pads 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20.

What the hell?

just picked up my IRD from a supposed dealer, he does'nt have the right stuff for this IRD. So I went to Radio Shack, bought 5 1/4 watt 100ohm resistors, a soilder type db25 and I'm gunna tackle this pig myself. I have the 5 connecting ok, and the 18-25 I will ground to the chasis, but what do I do with R79 and even pins
2-20?

When this is all said and done, I am gunna post one big How To, with Do's and Don'ts.

Larry

man don't worry about every one else you know like i do in all your post there is 150,000 ways to do the exact same thing with the same outcome what i do is go with the one with the most feed back and i have never went wrong...now me personnally I have never had to mess with the r79 at all but it is like the hu cards were remember the 4b and the 6b cards most of the time each crad had to use a different program in winexplorer to unloop you just had to know the card you was dealing with the samething with the irds in dish net do the vidmod first and try jkeys..if you dcu peak errors jump the jtag pegs like in the last picture of the file you posted...if it is being an asshole and not letting you reflash then do the r79 thing try it one step at a time and take it easy you been around toooooo long to be getting so uptight about this take a couple of breaths and get back to work or walk around a little bit that is all part of testing man you know that

thanks man, your insight has gave me a second wind. If you think I'm uptight though, you should see how pissed my wife is, I go from work to hobby room 3 days now. But hey I guess it's what testing is all about right?

Thanks again

I tell you - every time I get ready to JTAG a 301-13, I go on and attach a post to R79 and ground it. Haven't had a DCU Peek since - knock wood (Hitting head). I had to JTAG and being back 5 today from friends.

I topside JTAG anyway, and built a cool ribbon cable that uses soldered in headers on each JTAG pad. Makes my life easier. I used to use the Simple JTAG and soldered wires into the top.. but the headers really make it easier.

You can get something similiar at OddCircuits. I made mine because, well.. I'm just that way.

pads 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18, all all connected together as ground. 20 goes through a resister to ground, Any one of these can be used for the jtags ground point. That is what is meant by ground.

All of the even numbered pads on the top side jtag port read 0.0 ohms to ground, checked to a mounting pad the is screwed the the case, so if 20 goes thru a resistor, it is a 0 ohm resistor. Having jtagged well over 100 of the -013's and using pad 20 for every one, I can assure you that pin 20 works for a jtag ground, but there are at least a couple dozen other places that will work too, anypoint that reads 0.0 ohms to a screw hole the holds the board to the case is good. "Ground" in an electronic device normally is just another way of saying and means "case ground". Some of the -013's have a 3 wire power cord with the case grounded to the house ground too, some only have a 2 wire power cord with the case not grounded to the house ground, either way, the case, and everything directly connected to it, is considered to be ground.
