I have a DP301.010 that I bought on eBay. It has a password set up on it and I can't view any PPV. Is there any way to clear it out if I don't know the password?

JTAG and save the TSOP - open in Flash Edit, save as Virgin Eprom, then write the eprom to the receiver. Easiest and most sure way.

menu / 6 / 3 / info / down / right / left
you should see a memory dump.

press tv/video, you should get a non volatile memory corrupted message, unplug the receiver or turn it off by pressing the front button, it will set it back to factory default (you'll loose any preferences and favorite listings you had)

This does not work, I tried it. You actually do this:
Menu / 6 / 3
Within 4 seconds, press the following sequence
(info)
(Browse / Right Arrow >>> )
(Theme / Left Arrow <<< )
At Memory Dump screen hit TV/Video or the info button
Unplug IRD or hit the power button on the IRD.

But, this did not reset the password either...

I guess I will jtag it tomorrow.

If you get the memory dump, just scroll down to line 320 (I think is the right one for 301's but I could be mistaken)

It will read something like:
NVM 000320:0000000 00000000 34120000 00000000
^^

This is your password in reversed pairs
type the last two digits first, then the first two, so 3412= 1234

It is all zero's and I did try that. I read it in one of your other threads.

well keep scrolling till you find a line that looks like 0000000 00000000 XXXX0000 00000000

try line 1C0 but I think that's on 2800's only.

That did it. All better now.

Latest firmware for 301's doesn't allow password reset this way anymore.

Good deal! JTAG and rewriting the eprom is the only way to clear the passwords...

LOL. Charlie must have got some complaints from sub's saying the kiddies were visiting sites like this and defeating the locks. :-)

And many say america's youth is in trouble education wise. Sounds to me like they are getting more creative, imaginative, and thinking outside the box. Looking and finding anything they need to know to accomplish their goals.

Of course this only applies to other peoples kids. If mine pulled this kind of stunt to get the skin flicks i'd congratulate them on their ingunity then tan their bottoms.

As far as I'm concerned they can watch them when.

A: They are old enough to make that decision.

B: When they have to pay the bill themselfs.
