Only attached the JtaG to it, had to solder some wires. Got my boxkeys, backed up my tsops, tested with a Rom10 for a few days with no problems, eventually the picture and sound started freezing every few seconds so I pulled the Rom10 and put in my legit sub.

Everything was ok for a few days then on Monday; unable to record anything on timer anymore. Plenty of room on the disk (over 50 hours free) but creating a new PVR timer was impossible and just hitting record would work only as long as I would specify manual stop.

This morning I figured I'll do a hard reset on it. It fixed the problem but it also reformatted my hard disk, loss of all the SpongeBob Squarepants episodes I was keeping to digitize on my PC capture card.

Damn.

So be forewarned. A hard reset on a 5900 PVR will clear the hard drive.

Just in case, the reset procedure is identestical to the one for the 3100s:

"Hard Reset: Press "Menu", "6", "3", "Info", Right Arrow, Left Arrow (this should bring you to memory dump screen), "TV/Video". You will get a message saying "Non volatile memory is corrupted..." from there unplug for 10 seconds and plug back. Everything is reset "

I just did a hard reset on a 5900 last night and never lost a single recording.

I guess it's possible that there was something corrupted on my IRD to begin with.

What problem did yours have to force a hard reset?

i find that when my pvr's (5100 and 5900) get buggy, i just unplug the power and sat cable for a hour and all is good
