View Full Version : Can't Detect Switch?

Hi guys, got an interesting one here...

Just received a 4900 IRD from a buddy of mine...he said that the IRD stopped working the day before the latest ECM (so we can eliminate that one)...

I took his IRD and checked the location ID...it's fine.

Hooked it up to my line (known good because my 4900 works great on it) and the IRD won't detect a switch...won't receive a signal of any kind.

I reflashed the TSOP. I also virginized the EEPROM. Same results.

I thought it might be his card...I took the IRD # and Boxkeys from the JTAG information (directly off the IRD) and programmed an Atmega with a known good PFG (I run it on another IRD) -- same results. Can't detect switch, can't get a signal.

Is there anything else I can try or is this IRD completely hosed?

Thanks in advance for any insights...

Min

Disconnect sat cable, then run a check switch test. Then hook sat cable back up and run check switch test again, if switch is good it will recognize it.

I had the same problem a few months ago, but mine was caused by a lightning strike about 200 yards from the house. Take the cover off the ird and find the Sat input... remove the shield cover and look to see if any of the parts are blackened... I guess I can take a photo of mine, if you need it to see what it looks like...

Well, the good news Biggen1, is that nothing is blackened in that area. I've tried about 4 different TSOPs and virginized EEPROMs, so I'm kind of running out of suggestions.

rainy99, I'll give that a try and let you know how it goes. I know for a fact the switch is good because I have 3 other IRDs running off it (DP34), and I know this particular line is good because another 4900 runs flawlessly off of it. I'll try running the switch check without a hookup and let you know how it goes.

Thanks to both of you for the help!
