I noticed that in order to use the simple programming cable on the AR105-B that one needs to check that the port supports EPP and that there is 3v between pin 15 and 25. I have checked the latter and see no such voltage at the port on two computers. Is there another method of performing this test?

The simple cable is nothing more than a jtag minus TRST, the power is needed to power the lock chip to enable read/writes, you can leave the pins 15 and 25 unconnected in the lpt connector and use a battery pack to supply pins 1 & 2 of the lock with 3v.

It's my understanding that when using the simple cable, the receiver must be plugged in, turned off, not connected to dish, jumper NOT set to programming, and the receiver supplies the power to flash the lock.
When using the powered cable, receiver is unplugged, jumper set to programming mode, and the power is supplied by the powered cable to flash the lock.
Is my understanding correct? I haven't flashed any of mine yet since w/o PPV they don't reboot all the time.

Do you have to have windows 2000 or windows XP to program the Ar105 lock or are the able to be flashed with windows 98 Now , if not will they ever be?

I have Win2k and Win98 on a dual boot setup on my laptop. I'm going to add a WinXP setup as well so I can cover all the bases.. It's a snap to swap hard drives in my Thinkpad X20.. ;-)
But as far as I know, Win98 won't work and I don't see that being resolved any time soon, if ever..
