Com 1 won't open on XP

trying to get serial port to work under XP, giving error message "com 1 in use by another program" I closed out all programs, same thing. I know BIOS settings are good cause I can flash loader from DOS boot disk. also tried several other programs, Extreme Hu NagraEdit & Basic H, nothing working. Also tried a RS232 anaylizer program with same result. Does anyone know of a hotfix or patch to fix this?

Check your port addresses in XP device manager and make sure they match your bios addreses.

Changed port setting from com1 to com 4, rebooted, Up and running!
