View Full Version : Problem updating PPV strings in Yvous 3.0

In the past, when the PPV strings needed to be updated, I would simply generate the new PPV strings using PPV Patch Creator and replace the old strings in the Yvous.ini file with the new ones.
This time, every time I change the strings I get the message that my smart card is not inserted correctly. I can erase the PPV strings, put the disk back in the computer, and restart Yvous and the program runs fine and I get all the channels. Except the PPVs of course.
Any ideas?

After you start the computer and Yvous program, unplug the receiver for a few seconds and replug, that should do it. If you are fast, you can shut down Yvous using the ctrl and c key and start the new yvous program you have make and not have to reset the computer that way.

I downloaded a set of PPV strings that were created using "Wonka" and the system worked fine.
Everytime I have seen the issue of the message "the smart card is not inserted correctly" discussed in Dish forums the replys always state that it is a hardware issue, bad cable, dirty contacts on card, bad card slot in IRD, etc. However, my experience shows me that it can also be a simple software issue.

It is OK with me if you think it is a PPV problem. If you remove all the PPV's you will not get that message. If you shut down the Yvous program and wait a few minutes and restart it, without unplugging the IRD, what message do you get on the TV. does it say "smart card not inserted correctly"? Perhaps all the posts you have been reading on this subject are correct.

hi himeros,
does that mean that you recommend pulling the plug on the receiver each time yvous is reset to avoid the snic problem?
thanks in advance.

It will depend on the receiver you have. Close the emu program and start the new one quickly, if the ird nags you, then you have to unplug the ird. It seems my .013 is ok with changing the Yvous program, if I do it quickly, my 2700 hates it and will nag. Sometime just for fun, see how long the IRD works when you stop the program. I was surprised to find it runs for 20 to 30 seconds without the emu program running. So the answer is, if it works with a quick restart of the program, you are good, if you get the nag, then the only way around is to unplug the IRD after you start the program. Good luck

It's best to reset the ird's memory when you start YVOUS again. Just unplug the IRD when you stop YVOUS. Change the PPV strings (I always generate mine with Wonka) and put them in the .ini file. Once that's done, start up YVOUS and then plug in your IRD. Works EVERY time with my 301.13. And plus, not unplugging the IRD while resetting YVOUS is just lazy ;).

I've never had to unplug my receiver. I turned off my computer everynight and restart it when I am back from work, all I did was start Yvous 3 and pull the card and put it back. Done.
If I have to change the ppv string in the middle, I just have to change the ini file, leave the IRD be (on or off doesn't matter), close yvous and restart it real quick.
