I 'd like to get the Jtag programmer and lock from Mili's store for my 501. My question is does it involve any soldering ?

There will be some soldering. You will need to solder the lock. If you buy a universal jtag you won't have to solder that. However, that being said, you may have to solder a OJ1 mod in order to jtag properly. In addition to that you may have to solder a vid mod in order to use the old blue roms. So the short answer is YES! Depending on what you have to do, you may need to do a lot of soldering.

Down the road you will, next ecm and you'll have a door stop, and be very sad because you didn't back up your TSOP. So yes you still should get a jtag programmer. Or if you know someone with one, you could probably get by. JUST MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR TSOP. I'd pass on the lock if your not great at soldering, it's not easy, but what you'll need to solder for the jtag is very simple.
