I'm a noob at this so please don't be a hater. I have the original directv oval dish system (i think the first kind with the 2 seperate lnbs) and was wondering what I need to convert over to DISH or BEV. How much longer will BEV/DISH be running before they change their cards? I'm trying to figure if the cash outlay is worth the time remaining. I saw that I can get a sat package with 3120 receiver locally for around $130 from the store. Also saw magic card2. What else is required? Can you get both dishes on one receiver? Do I have to change lnbs? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

First of all, welcome aboard. No noob haters here bro.Your dish will work with dishnet if you use an SW21 switch to combine the signals for your 301/3100. I would say that dishnet will be around longer than bell, with regard to the Nagra1 format. I think we will watch dishnet into late next summer, but bell will be over in April.
As far as cards go, I prefer a rom10 above all, but some dudes have good success with Magic cards also.

I forgot to ask, if I buy a new system from a store, does it come with a card? Do I need this card or does the Magic card act as a replacement? What is a rom10?

the system will come with a card, but the odds are that it will be a new card (Nagra 2) and you will not be able to use a magic card in married sub mode (read on this to fully understand). You can use the magic card in what they call a camless mode, and all should be fine. Magic cards are either loved or hated. I don't use them much. As far as a rom goes, it means on old blue dish net card, rom 2, 3, 10, or 11. Rom 10's are cheap on fleabay and can be unlocked at any revision. Easy to program, and to manipulate. Get in now, don't waste much more time, and the return on investment will be worth it. If you can figure this stuff out easy and can do all the work yourself, the investment will not be that big.

A 3100 receiver is fairly easy to work with, just do alot of reading. Behind the serial number of the receiver is a reg ID ie. 010, 013, etc. Make sure you get one of those. Read on the reg version you buy to find out what you need to do. They are all a little different. Any other questions please ask.

Since DTV no longer works can I use the 2 DIRECTV LNBs to pick up the dish network signal (does dish have two satellites)? (OR one LNB for Dish and one for Bell)? If I can do that then I guess all I need is the receiver. (plus a card)

Yes dish / dave lnbs can both be used - and the main two birds are 110 and 119.

Dish have 3 actually 5 sats. 61.5, 110, 119, 121, 148
But aiming at 3 would give you most of the channels

modding loader info all over at dish net card programming forum, there are members here that can be trusted and will prob pop them for a small fee Rom 10 rev 23 And Rom3 rev 386. Most other lock cards can be poped with software out of the download section. I wouldn't hold my breath for a software fix if you want to use it before N1 gets turned off. Cards that are rev 23 with backdoor disabled in the last ECM may never have a fix. Hope this helps

your best bet is to search on ebay for a power seller with a 2700 Receiver with a OPEN rom3 or rom10..By open I mean not streamlocked REV383 & REVA23 are "locked"..If you dont know anyone or have the modded loaders to unlock them...
Also get yourself a ISO loader so when your card gets hit presto you can bring it back to life with no need to send it out to a dealer...While your @ it you may aswell get a jTag to read the box key's & reflash your TSOP on the ird if ever need be...
Usually you can get a good deal on ebay for a 2700 with open card & remote for $60 US..(if you live in the states )
DONT buy a loader or jTag off ebay get them from Milli..
