Simple or buffered jtag?My port settings are EPP+ECP.If it did read before, and you didn't change your settings, it should work still. Might as well check and make sure your port address settings match your jkeys config settings. Might also want to hold receiver pad 1 low when you enter flash programing.

I have a 4700-4900 myself
I use a buffered J-Tag with PoGo Pins from Polaris, it uses a 9-12 volt power supply.
Turn your computer off, start it up and hit the del key (most computers) when it begins to start. the CMOS setup will have a place to change the port setting, use EPP. set it for no interupts, 378 and save the changed file and exit so it finishes starting.
Go to settings, control panel, system, hardware, device manager,PCI bus, Paralell port or com port which ever it is listed as and click on SCAN FOR CHANGES. If you don't know which port it is click scan on all of them. (THIS will make the computer recognize the changes you made. you didn't do this so the computer did not know you changed it.) The other way is to restart the computer, do both to make sure the changes stick.
The computer will now be set up for J-Tagging and programing magic cards from the paralell port
The 4700 with new software is a 4900. Same thing it says 4700 on the back but the software (bin) is 4900 so it shows up as a 4900 on screen and flash. If you put in 4700 software it will be a 4700 again.
The EPROM is not a problem you can use any one in the TSOP files or the one in your other IRD, Just use flash edit to make it a virgin first then install it to the other IRD.
The .bin is the critical part, they can be a real horror if you lose the one that works with the IRD, took me months to find another one that worked when I lost it.
USE flash Edit 2
USE J-Keys 2_9_11_026
Read the directions with the J-Tag. It is easy most of the time.
there are instructions / manuals in the files section for using both programs.
Good Luck, come back here and post again if you have a problem.

You understood that there were ( 2 ) places to go.
The CMOS page that you get to by pushing a key (usually Del key) before the computer actually starts and it is still checking memory and listing drives. and changing the PORT settings there.
THEN you go to the system file in the settings and click on scan for changes so the computer see's that you have changed something.
It's a good idea to restart the computer too.
The EPP or SPP setting should work for magic and J-Tag both.
if you do the change right it HAS TO WORK and change the listing.
Don't give up, we'll be here, Sj

0x378 is the right number, you just have to get it to change to SPP or EPP

0x378
Now check you port settings in device manager or bios and make sure that your jkeys port address is the same as the systems port address. Not likely that this changes by itself, but you have to eliminate them as a problem anyways.

at this point i don't know what's going on..i don't know why this getting so difficult
