DP 301-10 receivers

How can I be sure that I have good backups of both tsops and eeprom in a 301-10?

When I backup the tsops, I get an error when I try to open them in Flashedit 2.0a.1.

The error:
In your own best interest. I am not going to allow you to open this file. This is because the checksums are not right.

I get the same error with 3 different receivers and a test file that I D/L'ed from the tsop bank.
Just want to be sure I got good backups before putting these boxes in the stream.

Thanks

Be sure you open them with the correct flashedit setting and you ge the order correct as it will ask for both flash files, U23 goes in the top box.

Thanks Skinnerd for the quick reply, but I have double checked the settings, and even when I get U23, U22 backwards Flashedit inserts them correctly.

But, I can't get past these errors.

I have to hold the pogo pin clip while Jtagging, so I may have allow pin pressure to drift.
Does this mean I have to Jtag until I dobn't get the error?

Is the receiver functional now? if so the flashes are good, you are just not getting a good read.

I had this very same problem with my first 301.010 .....

make doubly sure the order is right flash 2 is u23 - flash 1 is u22.

also make sure that after you select both files that flashedit didn't change the reciever to somthing else if it did change it back.
(seems like if i remember correctly mine keept changing to a 6000 or somthing)

The other Issue i had with mine was that i was downloading them on XP to an NFTS drive that had compression turned on - this was causing them to corrupt. I made an uncompressed folder and then they came down fine.

this whole process of discovery took me several frustrating hours....

Best of luck....

If I switch back and forth from advance to beginner one set of files gives me the box keys and other info. But the CRC is in red.

Can I assume that this is a good backup?

I had the same concerns with my 301.010.

I was using a quad mode JTAG and although I got the 2 TSOP bins I wondered if the reads were valid.

I took another set of reads and saved them to a different folder and then used HexWorkshop to do a file comparison between read 1 and read 2.

They were different!

I'll tell you, my arm was pretty sore holding down those pogo pins for 3 minutes per TSOP bin dump. I questioned in my mind if the pins were shifting and I was getting bad reads. There is a write-up that states to check FFF0 in TSOP 2 bin and your IRD# will be there (in hex), which it was, but I still had my doubts about the rest of the bin file, as well as TSOP 1 bin validity.

Ultimately I built a simple JTAG and soldered it to the EJTAG location on the top of the board and took my reads. No stress on the arm either!

I found that I did get good HexWorkshop file comparisons using that method so I feel secure with my backups now.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Sandman,

I am using Mili's Jtag, But, I think the final solution might be to go ahead and attempt the phone jack or simple Jtag as you did. I am not very good at the fine soldering, but, after looking at the solder points for Jtag pads and phone jack, I may be able to handle it.

Wish me luck, and thanks again Sandman and Skinnerd.

I have wondered about this also, i have backed up my IRD's after each firmware update but have never had to rewrite then. I have also noticed that i have never had the checksum not be in red when opened in flashedit. Are you guys saying that you can do a jtag read and the checksun is not red when oped in flashedit.?

I had always read that you must correct the checksum after you edit and before you write. I just though that the checksum was red as it was not being updated when the TSOP memory got changed only when you write a full TSOP. Am i wrong.

I still got the error..... but, this time the checksum was green.

The best news of all is that the phonejack jtag worked the first time, first try.

after the error message, I switch from beginner to advance or vice versa, and all of the info is there. I'm going to assume a good backup at this point and since I'm not using lock, hope that my next testing doesn't come with ressurecting from the tsop bank.

Tanks guys I'm off to more Jtagging.

I still won't be tackling the 510, my money got funny, but that one will still be coming to you hopefully soon.
