How important is the build config? i just got a new 301.010 to add another room. I want to softlock it like my other one is.
when i checked the build config on this new ird it is EAFA in the tsops (from flashedit) and EAFJ in the EPROM (from Wonka Eprom editor)
the sticker on the board is EAFJ
my real questions is if i put p225 on the tsops and put on a new virgin eprom do i have to use one that is matched to my build config?
I have read in some other threads they just have to be "close" but not sure how close they have to be
thanks

301's don't seem to care, I have flashed them with all sorts of different flashes, no problem.

Preferably if your Build on the Board reads EAFJ, look for a Tsop with at least the first 3 letters to be exact - ie.. EAF. That way you will not run into any trouble.

Giddy, is this something you read about or actually have experience with?
I just loaded an EAFJ receiver with an EAEA tsop file and a virgin EAED eeprom...working fine...

Yes I have had problems with 301.010 when I have loaded files with the last two figures different. But hey, you are a very experienced person in this field. Who am I to question.
But what I do is download the tsop file that is closest - First 3 letters correct - open Flashedit 2.0 and check the files, edit the IRD #s and Box Keys, Click on CRC and ECM and save them as personal dumps. Then I save the eeprom file giving the actual Config Build.
Next I open Jkeys, erase Flash 1, Program flash1. Then erase Flash2, Program Flash2. Them open Eeprom programing, and Program the new Virgin Eeprom file. So far I have had no problems. When I get hit by an ECM, I erase SA3 in Flash1 and restream the receiver.
I have a 301.013 receiver which has been giving me problems. Can I send it to you - Skinerd - for you to repair it and return it to me. Any cost involved I will pay. Thanks for your reply.

The only time I have had problems with unlike build configs is receivers other than the 301's. The 301's are very forgiving.
