I discovered a problem with the jkeys def file tonight, for saving 301-010 flash 1 bins.
Jkeys will save flash 1 (U22) as 2 meg, actually 2,097,152 bytes, this is not correct. The actual file length for flash 1 is 2,031,616 bytes.
This is easy to rectify, you need to edit your jkeys def file, change the 200000 in flash 1, address 1FE00000, to 1F0000, currently it is set to 200000.
The length of flash 2 is correct at 200000.
This applies to saving from the first jkeys screen "save mem" button only. Saving from the flash programming panel will still save it as the wrong size.
before edit:

So we need to edit our defs? And if you put that EAFA tsopsa in the tsop bank, can you fix that? Lol Would that be why im having that error ?

301-3100 Flash memory not accessible beyond 0x1fff0000, change program length to 0x1f0000?
thats the error i get after editing and all....hmmm
EDIT: I get that on both of my EAF build 010s

Answer the question "yes" so it won't try to write beyond the range of flash 1. Check to see if your flash 1 bin is 2,031,616 bytes(1.93mb) long. Flash 2 should be 2,097,152 bytes(2.0mb) in size.
the jkeys edit only will apply to saving flash 1 bin files, that's all.

It will write the 2 meg flash 1 bin, just error out when completing, then will need to stream update if the lights are flashing, let it set in the stream for 1/2 hour or so.

Skinerd,
I ran into this error three nites ago when I tried to re-flash my tsop with a virgin created from the original dumps. Got ECM'ed (bought on ebay) 20 minutes after in stream using MC1 in camless rom 10 mod. Since I couldn't get the U22 to load I erased it and let it re-load through the stream. After inserting the MC1 and watching tv for about 20 minutes I got hit again. Any suggestions (other then tsop lock, which I am ordering now)?
Should I try a different flash?
Thanks
Drucius

I am using MC1 in a 301-010 also, and have not been hit, so I don't know, I uploaded a corrected -010 file to the tsop section., don't know if it is avaviable yet tho.
Skinerd, I am not trying to hijack the thread but did notice you are using a 301-010 and was wondering if you are getting the Pixelation on PPVs that I am seeing?

No, no pixelzation, just an occasional freeze, just briefly every once in a great while.

So are you saying that flash programming method of saving the flashes are useless on the 301-10s/3100s and that one should only use the read mem button only?
Yes, that is correct, the flash programming section refers to both chips as the same size, cause they are the same chip type.
The save mem function can be edited in jkeys.def to set flash 1 at 1F0000 in size and flash 2 at 200000, which is correct.
I don't understand all I know about this, because the chips are the same size and type, but flash 1 is limited to 1F0000 in size.
Flash 1 bin is 2,031,616 bytes(1F0000 or 1.93mb) long. Flash 2 should be 2,097,152 bytes(200000 or 2.0mb) in size.
If flash 1 is saved as a 2.0mb file jkeys simply fills the addresses 1F0000 thru 200000 with zeros.

Will the back-up still work with that section zeroed?

Yes I certainly did, I made for sure positive that it works before I posted it.
But, hey.....don't take my word for it, get a 301-010 and try it yourself.....you a tester ........no?

I guess it will, funny that I never noticed this before, and I have reflashed a few 301-010's. I checked all my save 301-010 files, and every one of the flash 1 bins was 2.0 mb.

I was just wondering if, I needed to spend the time to dump em all over again.
I have never needed to write flash one, I have always just streamed them. I have em saved just for roll back purposes

Totally up to you, I have flashed a few with the 2 mb flash 1 and never really paid attention to the errors, don't know why it caught me eye now.
Hi,
I'm new to testing, I like to make sure that before I do anything with the IRD, I have good backups. on this TSOP matter I can't get the Jkey program to save, read or dump as you are sugesting, can anyone please detail the steps that I need to follow.

No, the def file won't cause that error, when do you see the error?
O.K. When I read the ird it just comes up modle#301-3100
ird# R-0 0000 0000x xx
box keys FF FF FF FF FF
also when it saves it's 2048Kb in size . Does this mean it didn't save correctly?
Hey is anyone there? would really appreciate some help if you have the time? Kinda lost with no t.v.
I looked in Jkeys app. folder and I can't find any Jkeys.def file, can any one indicate how to get to the .ded file?

Sounds like either the tsop is blank or you have a lock installed?
If flash 1 saved as 2 mb, it's wrong.
Flash 1 should save as 1.93 MB (2,031,616 bytes)(hex 1F0000 bytes)
Flash 2 should save as 2.00 MB (2,097,152 bytes)(hex 200000 bytes)
Tsop can't be blank Just canceled the sub. on this one.
Both flashs saved 2048kbs
Both flashs saved 2048kbs also where do you find 301-508 jkeys ?
I've looked in the dowloads But I must not be in the right section because I can't seem to find it. Can you tell me EXACTLY where, PLEASE?

I was trying to do a quick ECM fix today on my receiver and when I go to do a flash programming I get the following error:
The flash codes returned are not recognized by JKEYs. MFG/Device Codes returned are FFF (JEDEC) and Flash File (FFFF)
What am I doing wrong?
I am looking for help erasing U23 flash on a 301_010. I am getting "Flash Timeout (DQ5 Set)". at time when I try and erase it.
I am able to erase SA0 to SA22, and SA24, thru SA28. SA30 thru SA34; however when I try to erase SA23 and SA29, I get this same error coming up.
I am able sometimes to flash it without any error message ( this takes 33mins) and the green light lit then goes off. I am able to readback the BoxKeys IRD# etc. fine using Jkeys. What I observed however, when I open the readback file in FlashEdit the "App Area CS" hex numbers are different from the "Proper App Area CS" hex number, under the CheckSum header. The file I wrote to the TSOP had those numbers the same.
When I put the IRD in the stream the green light flashes on then off, then it comes back on and stays on for a long time then back off again. I left it in the stream for 1 hour still not picture.
I have another 301_010 and I do not have this problem erasing U23 this one is AMD the other one has Hynix.

DQ5 set is caused by one of 2 things, a lock installed or a failed flash chip.
I guess I have a failed TSOP chip, as I have no lock installed. No for hell can I erase U23.

Skinnard, I know this is kind of late in the game but you never mentioned "which" version J-Keys has a problem. And nobody has ever asked.
There are a lot of versions. Or is it all of them.

Look in the def file, if it has "Flash 1(IC22-29LV160)", 0x2250, 0x1FE00000, 0x1F0000, 2, 2, 0
as the line for flash 1, then it's cool.

I use 2.9.11.026, and have been using it for a long time on 2800,4900, 301.10 with no problems. My .bin files are both saved at 2,907,152 and yes I do get that ;
301-3100 Flash memory not accessible beyond 0x1fff0000, change program length to 0x1f0000?
When I change .bins
I answer yes and it works.
here is the 2.9.11.026 def file for the 301.10 (I see the difference.)
IRD, 11, "301-3100", 11, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 0x1FC0FFF0, 0x1FC0FFF4, 0x1FC0FFC0, 0x1FC0FFC8, 0x1FFEFFF4, 0x1FFEFFF8, "10U", 1, 3
IRDFlash, 11, "Flash 1(IC22-29LV160)", 0x2250, 0x1FE00000, 0x200000, 2, 2, 0
IRDFlash, 11, "Flash 2(IC23-29LV160)", 0x2250, 0x1FC00000, 0x200000, 2, 2, 0
If you are not having problems do you really think it should be changed ?
I am saving this info in case I ever do have problems.
Thanks, Sj
Just curious, I used a different version of jkeys and it seemed to work .However I can't seem to get signal now. Has this ever happened to anyone? The ird was subbed before but has not been in the stream since.

The fact that every version seems to have this 'error' and they all work indicates that is not a serious problem, at least not serious enough to cause your problem.
It merley causes a screen to show with a change in the requested start/end point and if you click OK it works fine.
You will have to look elsewhere for your problem unless you checked NO.
If you are changing versions of J-Keys make sure you are using the correct version for your IRD, they don't all work in all IRD's.
have tried all the version of jkeys and 3 different computers and jtags but what I noticed was all the recievers are new or subed and downloaded with the new software are giving problems with out locks and if you try to install a lock you will have problems like no power to reciever. Recevers with locks that take update are running fine, but we need a newer version of jkeys to get back into flash program because the software has change something. If you try to get boxkey from a new updatyed reciever for example I had a 3100 downloaded to the new software P535 tried reading the boxkeys nothing.....installed a lock on another one - no power but I didn't turn the lock on ,but on a older one with new software but no lock I installed the lock and no power but I switch the lock on and reciever tsop was crupted and can't fix til I can get back into flash programming.
I hope this help, and be very care with jkey and do not update software on receiever.
I used jkeys and every thing seemed to be fine , but when I plug in the sat feed it says no signal. There is power to ird. No signal. The feed has signal to different ird. Is there anything I can do?

What software are you running on the recever and if it old its working fne but the newer software is the problem.
You might have a tuner problem thats why you receiver isn't working.

Find a copy of J-Keys 2_9_11_026 in the files sectin.
While you are there get my public dump TSOP, was # 14 & 15 last I looked.
It is a P-229 dual .bin flash from my WORKING 301-10 I put there for a couple of people with problems.
Change the numbers on the .bins to yours and Make your EPROM a Virgin with flashedit. Dont wory about the file size just click OK when it asks about the address.

You can either change the IRD # and Box key # in the saved flash with flashedit.
Or you can just use that flash to change the numbers on the IRD when you install it.
There are no "right" numbers, they can be any ('legal') numbers you want them to be you change them with the flash.
You know of course that you have to turn the lock off to change anything with the flash ?
If that flash backup is not good use the one I put in the public files for the 301-10
They are now numbered # 18 & # 19 and make your EPROM a virin with flashedit.

The best J-keys I have found for the 301.10 it is in the downloads section.
If you are J-Tagging properly (read the How To it is there too in the newby section)
It sounds like the TSOP is corrupt.
Flashedit is a seperate program also at the download section. It is used to change the numbers on a flash, make a virgin out of a EPROM.

Some of the older 301-13 siggles do not need a vid mod to work with Magic.
The newrer ones do. I don't have the list of serial numbers on which do and don't but it is here someplace.
The vid mod is not hard to do. There are instructions here on how to do it.
P.S.
you can not use the 301.10 flashes I refered you to with the 2700 or the 301.13, they both have different flashes , look in the public download files for them.
The 2700 will work with the version of J-Keys I suggested but the 301.13 has a different one, you can get that in the public files also.
So if I use "wall_v2.0" and leave the Base address 1FC00000 and change the length to 400000 it saves and says it saved 4MB, But will it work to reprogram? This of course is for the 301.013 with one large tsop 4MB.
Also I saved 3100 tsop at 2,048KB file size says 2MB and tsop2 1,984KB file size says 1.93MB. Will these work?

With the 'error' in J-Keys file size what it does is say not accessable beyon xxxx continue? just click yes.
Let the program make the changes to the address and legnth it wants, it knows what it is doing and it will work fine afterwards.
You really do not have to worry about the 'error'.
Whe using Wall you have to remember which flash is which they are called different names 1FC and 1 FE are two different flashes 1 & 2 or 222 & 223 Fc = 223 (Flash 2) and has the boxkeys, do it first. then the other one. FE 222 (Flash 1)
Then the EPROM.
Never erase BOTH flashes at once and you will be able to use J_Keys instead, erase and replace flash 2 (223) first (in one action do not stop between erase and write that's what screws people's IRD up.) and replace it with the new one,
Sj then do flash 1 erase & replace.

Always erase flash 2 (23) first and re-write it, do not erase both at once. The IRD forgets what it is.
You will have to use Wall2 now follow the directions I gave mother above. It is in the files section and is similar to J-Keys (J-Keys 2.9.11.026 is best for 301.10)

You can erase both, no problem, I do it all the time, IF you don't exit the flash programming part of jkeys, cause you won't get back in without jumping thru some hoops.
I use jkeys version 301-508 for just about everything.....

Yes It can be done, you can do it, most times I can do it. But it just takes one slip and you are going to the wall or the JYF. I think it's wiser to recommend the safest method to the kind of people that ask these questions with 5 or 10 posts to their names to avoid leading them through wall or JYF's.
A big thing to consider other than experiance is whether they are using a hard wired J-Tag or a PoGo Pin, that's what gets my old hands holding those pins on contacts for the 8 to 10 minutes necessary to do it in one operation. OUCH !
I usually do flash 2 then rest them before doing flash 1.
Never tried 301-508 always use 2.9.11.029 it does all the models I have, 2800, 4900, 301.10

GREAT INFO SKINERD but I don't know how to edit jkeys def file. I have read all the replies in this thread and thread 35957; I have downloaded jkey 3-1-508 and jkeys 2.9.11.026 but both save the "mem" as 2097152 bytes. There is no option on either jkeys box/screen to edit def file. WHAT AM I MISSING? Also if/when I ever DO EDIT those mysterious def files do I save it and write it back to my 301.10?
Could this be the problem of getting hit every 30 minutes? I use the same card # that I have on 2 other machines (which have not been hit) and it won't run more than 30 minutes without being hit and going to loc #00001.

NO it is not the reason.
It is really not necssary to edit the J-Keys, they are all like that and make the correction themselves if you just tell them 'yes' when they give the error message and let them write to the right address on their own.
Skinnerd is a maticulous perfectionist. We are all lazy and just ignore it.
99% of the people do not make the change and it works fine.
I have been using 2.9.11.026 since it came out no problem. (301.10)
Your problem is elsewhere. Try a new flash and re-program your card.
If you have a EAEA use # 35 & # 36 in the public download files they are my own flashes for the 301.10 and are working fine right now for me and many people who have downloaded them. (use flash edit to edit your IRD 7 BOX numbers into them use flashedit to make your EPROM a virgin) Do a check switch, run magic Rom 3, all defaults, no lock. Only been hit 4 times in a year.

THANKS AGAIN SMILING JACK. Okay it doesn't matter if I change def files. BUT if I wanted to where are they. I used the suggested Jkeys but no "def" was not a choice. Where do I find "def" to change it?
Also I have EAED-N, not EAEA. (I feel dumb asking) When you say try a new flash
do you mean an EAED-N flash? Do I open jkeys and erase the current flash and then write the new flash from your file (never done this before). OR do I use a different program (flashedit). I don't quite understand the following: "run magic Rom 3, all defaults, no lock. Will this come up somewhere. Thanks for your patience!

Yo have to open the code of the program to change it, there is a post by JT about how to cghange it in here if you want to do a search, like I said most people just click OK and it works fine on it's own.
Matching just the first three letters of the build will work fine. The -N is a error message, when you put the new flash in make your EPROM a virgin too and it will go away.
There are detailed instructions in the newby section of the store and in the files section.
Basicly you you just overwrite the EPROM but you have to erase a .bin 3 times or more then write the new one right away in the same action without stopping or you can run into problems, do flash 1 erase, write. then do bin 2 erase, write.
Put in EPROM and you are finished. It wil take about 10 minutes for the whole job.

You are probably doing it wrong or using the wrong program.
Use J-Keys 2.9.11.026
