A friend of mind just gave me a new 301 box w/card. It has never been used. Can I get it to work with my card
If it came with a Rom11 card put it in a drawer and save it for a later day. Jtag the 301 and get the boxkeys and IRD num put them on your card and your good to go. Do not hook it up to the stream until the card you are going to use is set up for it. The receiver will have virgin software on the TSOP. The first thing it will do is upgrade. If upgraded without a ready card it will not accept anything but a rom11.
or can I read my JTAG info from a IR thats not working into this IR? Any suggestions. I also have a 6000 and 4700 same situation.
If I understand correctly then the answer is no. Software from different IRD's are specific to the model and build. Software from a 4700 will not work on a 301. Software build is determined by looking at the white sticker on the main board. It will have a four letter code for the build. ex 301-010 with a EAED build. Which is a bit confusing because the actual build is EAEA. Even though the sticker says EAED. Yes I know welcome the the wonderful world of Dish Network.

you can put the box numbers and all that using FlashEdit2.1a, just open the saved TSOP's in that program and "open" or read them, and then in either advanced or Beginner you can input the data (Boxkeys and IRD#) there. then Save them and flash them back to your IRD.

1. The new box is a 301-010 Rom10 card.
2. The old box is the same 301-010 w/ROM10
In that case it's simple. Just jtag read and save the old box. Jtag read and save the new box. Write the tsop's in the new box with the saves from the old box. No changes to the card. Now you can use the card in the old or new box.
This will only work if both 301's have the same number of TSOP's. Some 301's have 2 (common) some have 1 (rare). Jkeys will tell you how many there are when you read them.
Great way to learn but why don't you just program the Rom10 that came with the new 301? Should be a open card if it's never been used.

Use Darnat's "get your files here" link.
Get few pieces of software.
RTM11.8c
NagraEdit3 (may be included with RTM)
and NCBDishv3
While your there pick up a rom10 programming guide.
Read it over pop back in and ask if you have any questions.

Vinniec,
Just a little note for you here, the DssRev card will not work on the 4700,but the techs are aware of the problem and are working on it.The 3100 on the other hand, will work just fine.
