xpatmel ?

maybe a stupid question but here goes anywhere. I cannot figure out how to choose the different flashes from the xpatmel screen. please help.

When you open the program you should see a list of flashes that are in your version of xpatmel. Just click on and highlight the flash you want and then click program button.
