ok, wanting to get a way to hook up for free but live about 12 miles away from known wireless access. been checking out some wifi antennas to increase my range, but still unclear in this area how to make it work. read an article of using primestar dishes and hooking a tin can on the end of it plus a few accessories, sounds crazy but it appearently works. has anyone else conquered a large range interception ,lol.

You'll never get 12 miles, a few 100 yards at best.

Hmm after looking into this somemore, 12 miles could work. Crazy new hobby.

here is a neat site, showing you can make antenna out of alomost anything.

is quickly becoming my new hobby.
12 miles is possible but not with the cans.
it will cost some bucks for extra equipment.
I am currently in the middle of the primestar dish biquad set up myself.
Looking for the right coax , according to the peeps already into this I will have to have microwave conpatable coax. I need to go around 1500 ft thru trees and up a damn hill.
I did just read a guy who a pro confirmed he could get 9 miles but would have to use PoE(power over ethernet).
and set his device to carry ehternet back to his pc.
I made the biquad feedhorn today as a practice run but knowing I had not the corrct coax I was more or less doing one of Birdies sayings about burn one up so I figured to get it out of the way first. I did get a better signal from one end of my submarine to the other going from poor to good signal and from 11bps to a 34 bps connection so I am on the right path.
Them cans will never get that far , follow up on the dish method or a way to boost your power.
Hell I may make a neighborhood hotspot before it is over.
