I have 3 receivers but only 2 feeds straight from sat. Would it be possible to use an A/B switch (Radio shack style) to send the signal from one feed to alternate from my room or the playroom?

I am too cheap to buy a sat switch and was wondering if I can get away with it?

Yes. of Course, You Will Only be Able To use One Receiver At A Time.

I was just checking... cause using a splitter with one receiver closed and one on did not do the job.

Yep can use a a/b switch as mentioned but ,also as mentioned, will only be able to use either a-rec or b-rec at a time. The splitter don't work because it distorts the signal making the rec not to work right.

Thank for the help guys. Just bought another projector and plan on installing it in the rec room in the basement. You guys just saved me a big headacke.

LOL RadioCrap. One thing to remember you have 18/14 volts coming out of each receiver to feed the LNB.
you can damage either receiver if you connect them both at the same time.
An A/B switch will work just fine. you can have all three connected but you will only be able to view only two receivers at a time.

DD,thats a good point about the voltage comming out of the IRD to feed the lnbs. Whenever you play with these irds you should shut them off or unplug them because the voltage comming out could fry some components in the ird or lnbs if it got shorted. People using FTAs are having problems with frying the switches used because they are not turning the power off and frying the switch.

That is correct Rurso, if you put together two battery's neg with neg pos with pos the battery will heat up possibly explode .
the same principle applies to the receivers they can send out signals like an Indian sending signals of smoke.
the LNBS will stay the same since there is no power output, just input.

i have my dtv dish and my dishnet dish going out and into an a/b switch.....

then i have one line going from that a/b switch directly to another a/b switch.....

then i have two lines going out of the second a/b switch to one dtv ird and one dishnet ird....

when i watch my (paid for) nfl package i switch BOTH a/b switches to "a". i get the feed from the dtv dish and can see tv (on video 2) with my dtv ird. when i switch BOTH a/b switches to "b". i get the feed from the dishnet dish and can see tv (video 1) with my dishnet ird.

got tired of changing out the ird every sunday... and swithing the lines from the sats.

btw i pay cuz i want uninterrupted football and i want all the games with NO problems EVER. i love my football... enough to pay!
