I've done the vidmod, the jtag and the Oj1 on my 510. I've changed the lba on my 120 to maje it an 80gb. I had previously tried all sorts of firmware for the u7 chip. I got fed up because nothing was working. I would get a green light and a black screen. So now, I reflashed BOTH the original flash 2 and flash 1 (no errors) and a virgin eeprom (I had forgotten to make a backup). Now my unit's light goes on and the hard drive is making constant noise but again my tv screen is black. No messages of any sort. I'm going to leave it on all night and see what happens by morning. If nothing happens I'm going to whip it out the window! What else can I do to revive this thing? Help...

Make sure your OJ1 is disabled or OFF and your Vid Mod is OFF. You made the Virgin EEprom off your current Tsop (U7) bin, correct? You should get something on the TV screen, an error, nag or system info screen.
Cables from TV out and Sat in correctly attached?

Well just as I thought, nothing. Screen still black. Checked cables and they're ok. Pulled out card and put back in. Funny thing when I did that the reciever wouldn't power up. Pulled out power wire, put it back in and wouldn't power up. When i select the top detect button on jkeys the light goes on and seems to do a reset. Any ideas?

did you use a jumper or a switch for the OJ1 mod? how many solder points on the back of the switch for the vid mod? make sure you triple check the postition of your switces (the on off, or on on positions) check with a multimeter the conections with the switch directions for the switch. Something could be on when you think it is off or vice versa. No light on tells me that some mod you have done is still on. Did this unit work prior to any of the modifications? How many wire of vid mod did you do? Are the connections good?

Does Jkeys still detect the IRD. Also, double check around your solder areas with magnifying glasses for any excess solder. (Especially around where you cut the top trace) Sometimes a hair size solder strand will bridge between two runs when they are close together.
And as smithers stated, double cehck the wiring to the Vid Mod switch to make sure that it is wired corectly and that off is really off. (In the off postion, you should not be able to write or program the TSOP's)

The receiver was working before I decided to attack it. Vidmod is with two wires under the board with the cut, and 12volt from on top. OJ1 is the r148. I soldered two separate wires and I attach them when I want to write to the tsop and unattach them when I'm finished (unplugging receiver first). I rechecked all my soldering and in fact redid almost all and everything looks good. I'm going to give up soon because again no light. So my next question is, does anyone know of someone in montreal that can fix these things?

Not real sure, but it sounds like you did the 3 wire 1 trace cut vid mod........if you did, you may never get it going now.
After it has been plugged in a few minutes put your finger on the flash chips and the CPU see if either one gets hot.......if it does, it's a goner.

The two flash chips are not warm but the big one in the middle that writes PVR is warm. Isn't that the cpu and isn't it supposed to get somewhat warm?
