Virgin Firmware?

I'm going to uprade my 40g HD to a 80g (approved Maxtor) on my 6 month old 501. I'm reading alot and find that marrying the new drive seems to be the key. I also read that getting a good virgin TSOP seems to be difficult. I made back-ups of both flashes and eeprom before ever streaming this unit, the ver. was P080 out of the box. My question is by loading the original firmware, flash2 only and eeprom will this get the new drive to marry and how will I know if it did? My plan was after I know it has while I've still got it on the table and jtaged I would reflash with current Bev and hook it back up and watch TV.

To be certain it is married you need to hook it up to the TV and make sure of no hard drive errors. Your out of the box firmware should be fine to marry with.

Thanks Skinerd. Any need to have it in the Stream? I'm pointing at bev. Also card in or out at any of these stages.

Should not need to stream just to marry and see if any errors pop up, marrying might take 1 minute or so, it has to marry and set the harddrive up. As long as no harddrive errors show, it's prolly good.

Well just installed the new 80 gig Hard drive in my 501 and I'm getting a serious hd error. I'm assuming it did not marry. Ended up using a virgin po63, flash edited with my IRD and Box key #'s made a virgin eeprom, streamed it, getting TV (Bev) but no PVR. Firmwear has not updated yet, don't know if it will with out HD. Had original yellow card in at 1st but kept getting 019 error so put in Magic card, Got TV but still know PVR. Read and followed a few how to's one said to ff a line in the eeprom to make it marry I did'nt do that as others didn't say to do this. Another said to us a specific build code(dawd) but I used the one on my sticker (dced). If I try other TSOP's and or eeproms will the drive have to be removed and zeroed after every attempt?
