does anyone have a pic to show where to solder a simple jtag to the top pads of a 4700.
Are they the same as a 2700.
a pic would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

Here's what you're looking for. I know it dosen't say 4700 in the filename but the pinouts are exactly the same.

I wired my jtag like this and it does not work.. I am confused..The Diagaram above shows all the pads in a row no skips.. this one skips a pad. which is correct. The above diagram only shows 7 pads there are 10.. I have done several irds and they all work fine. someting amiss with this... help pls...

The wiring diagram I put in here is right.

I use it on my 4700, I just use a pogo pin from the bottom which is the view in the diagram.

You use the five points shown, skip the end points. If you can't figure it out from the picture there are only 3 more screws to remove to get the board out of the case and look at the bottom and go from there.

Make sure you do not have the order reversed.

1) JSHIN diagram is for the TOP JTAG....(top of the motherboard--round contacts).

2) Smilingjack diagram is for the BOTTOM JTAG....(bottom of the motherboard--square contacts).

Both diagrams are correct.....

You were looking for a TOP JTAG points....weren't you ? What's confusing about it ?

The boards look different from the top and bottom

The top has smaller and more points than

The bottom which has fewer and larger points.

Ok I checked the wiring both ways with meter all the way back to the DB 25 pins
and all is good.. I wire the pads to a DB9 plug on each Ird and have cable to the computer with simple jtag built into it.. works fine on my other IRDs This one comes up with Device unknown and all 00000 without the Ird connected it come up
all 77777 so it must be seeing something.. I got the Box keys and ird ## from the card and programmed it and it gets the channels ok.. but the Remote does not work at all. So I cannot do the SW test and instalation.. Is the 4700 a different remote it has the Uhf ant on it?. I am using the remote for my 510. think they should be the same.. Maybe this is part of the reason I cannot Jtag. This unit has been out of service for some time and my Neighbor brought it to me to see if I could get it working for him.. I notice on the system screen it says upgraded to a 4900 from 4700. anyone have any Ideas...

The 4700-4900 has an antenna on it to get the UHF from the remote.
I believe it may with any blue button remote and has a IR sensor as well.
I don't know about your 510 remote they may have changed things on it since it's new. 4700 is old, Nice Dolby surrond sound though.

The 4700 is the 4900 with only a software difffenence in the flash, 4700 is BEV 4900 is Dish

What is your build. xxxx on the sticker
I have a working 4900 flash from mine, it may fit.

I am not sure if the remote problem is purley machanical or software related but i think it is mechanical. Have your neighbor Find the blue button remote.

Thanks : The flash would not be of much good to me as I cannot Jtag the unit..
Do you happen to know how the Port Diagnostic is set up in Jkeys..it looks like it should tell you what line is open but I dont seem to get any response to anything (even with a working unit). Would be real nice if it worked..

OK, thanks,..that is what I wanted,..I have it already,.just didn't know if the 4700 was the same as the x7 x8 x9 x3 ird's.
I didn't want to solder wires on the wrong top pads.

I have done several irds with simple jtag..just did a 4700 and got NEAT about it
I usually put a db9 male jack on the back of the unit and hard wire the pads to that then just plug in my jtag cord.. Works great This time i found a jack with a ribblon cable allready wire to it . He this will be a neat one.. UH UH.. Could not make this work at all..Unknow device nag every time.. NOW I know you cannot run those wires close together and have it work..

Don't know why, factory J-Tags like the POGO pin ones from Polaris use a ribbon cable 10 inches long, that's pretty close wiring and I have no problems with it.

Sounds more lke a bad solder joint.
