I edit the def files quite often, it will usually allow you access to the flashes, but it won't repair damaged flashes or traces or other reasons that keep the flashes from functioning.

Hey I had that problem with a 5100 I was doing, I erased both flashes and then couldnt get jkeys to work. I got manufacturer not reconized FFFFF error. What appeard to happen is that at the beginning of the repair I was trying the unplug trap proceedure and it was so-so and was not writing correctly. It did manage to erase enough of the flash that I couldnt do much with it, the program the flash was greyed out. I then grounded pin 1 of the jtag but had a cold solder joint (arggggg) that took me awhile to realize, after I finished that I had to edit the def file for jkeys. What I figgured out is that I had to edit the def file as follows.....

remove all enteries except the one for your reciever (ie: 5100 and the tsop def's etc) then replace the manufacturer id's and tsop id's with the error you get in jkeys pop up (manufacturer FFFFF etc). When you restart jkeys it will reconize the screwed up tsops and allow you to write to the ird. Fixed it for me and allowed me to use jkeys to recover the dead 5100. Took awhile to figgure out, but its quite simple once you see it.

good luck

it is hard to say because you do not explain properly your problem writing the flash when you get back into the flash if you indeed do get back into the flash you simply erase it and rewrite it it you clearly explain your difficulties you will get a much better answer in other words what problem are you experiencing when attempting to erase and rewrite your flash

like skinerd said, erase and write a virgin tsop back to the ird, remember to put your box keys in the virgin you are going to install.........or write a backup of your ird that you made earlier before you ran into problems......

I have a friend who has a 301.010, he brought it over to me and I did up the card for him and what not, well ppv finally went and he brought it back, I figured I should back up the tsop while I had the receiver again, so I tried to back it up, I kept getting LSI control was not available and trap wouldn't load and the flash codes were not recognized, This recevier is fine, We were watching tv on it before I jtagged it. I finally got into the flash with lsi control gone and got a read of both flashes. I then put them in flashedit and tried to open them and it told me checksums weren't right so I click on the advanced tab and opened the file. The crc was fine and all other info seemed to be ok as well, It was x-mas eve and I wasn't going to spend a lot of time on it but I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for this one.

Crazy, that happens on some versions of jkeys here too, try another version, at last count I had like 9 different versions, with 7 different file sizes for the jkeys.exe program, so there are differences.

You know skinderd that did cross my mind but I wrote it off figuring I had the latest version that detects the 013 by itself. But I will take that into consideration next time I get my hands on it. The guy lives 50 miles away so when he brings his card I make him bring his receiver just to be sure he has tv before he leaves. I will try your suggestion when I get the chance and get back to everyone on my findings. Thanks alot.
