I have a 508 PVR that I'm convering to Bev 5800. I saved the info off the system, but when trying to add the info (new boxkeys and ird) they won't change. What am I doing wrong??? I've changed boxkeys and Ird info on all models including 5100, but this 5800 just keeps the old info even after I erase the bins.

Any info would help please.

Can you say VID MOD? Better learn how cause that's what you need.

I forgot to mention that when I do an erase on U6 and U7, I get an error message that tells me the info is not fully erased.

skinerd,

I've managed to load BEV 5800 software and use a rom3 card with the original Dish 508 boxkeys and ird# loaded.

The boxkeys and IRD # that I want to use still won't load into the PVR. Even though I have a Rom 3 currently working do I still need to do a vid mod?

Is there another way of changing the boxkeys?

Nope, they are in the locked sector of flash 2.

If it works, why do you want to mess with it?

When the blue Nagra 2 card comes in the mail for my 3100, I wanted to be able to use this recv'r too.

Can the yellow card that came with this 508 be used for BEV in place of the blue card? What I'm asking is will it be Nagra 2 ready if a fix comes for N2?

The yellow card is N2, but who knows if it will ever be cracked or not.

Is there a way of "grounding" the G2 chips so that they lose there memory in the locked sector?

No, and if there was, you would you reprogram it? They are locked, remember, and the receiver willl not function at all if they are empty.

So I guess my only option to install my boxkeys and Ird info is to do a vid mod?

No, you could change the flash chips to the DT type, but that is a lot more work.

Where can I get a real clear, (easy step by step) vid mod file?

Skinered, should I use the 4 wire vidmod setup? And what the best file to work with?

In the files section, it's misspelled, something like easzy508 vid mod..

Have you done this using this file and how safe (if done right) is this modification? I'm going to attempt this today.

OK...All done, changed my boxkey and IRD to match my original rom 10. Now I get a HD failure. What can I do to fix???

Sounds like you failed to remarry the hard drive........need to load a virgin firmware with the new numbers, and zero the HD, to do that.

How do I zero the HD?

Get the utility from the HD mfgr web site, install the HD in a PC and run utility from a floppy.

Thanks Skinered,

Last night I installed the P068 software (with my boxkeys and IRD) and created a virgin eeprom. The HD worked fine after the new E545 software loaded overnight. Thanks for your help with everything.

Using a PVR with BEV does not require resizing the HD, only remarrying if the numbers were changed.
