Hello Skinerd.
You claim to know just about everything about 510's So, you are the right person that can to help me solve this 510 "ERROR 349"

I done seven 510 so far and I'm on my 8th. I got lined up 5 more already married HD's since I clone every receiver with same Key and Box it comes very handy to marry Hd's while the receiver is on P75- P80 ...OK end of RESUME :)


MODE: 510
Original Firmware: DFHA @ 084 (nice it took the upgrade )
Problem: ERROR 349 " You are attempting to use a version of Smart Card...."
Steps Taken: check D500=0000 (PLENTY TIMES)
reflashed with several firmware
flash 1 can't be errase and leaved blank on this one( won't turn on)
Unlpuged the HD to see if will run with out HD
Erased SA60 to force Upgrade
Start from scratch several times(for two days) DFHA @ 084 all the way to 223
This morning (on my 3th Day) I took my own 510 from my bedroom, P223DFGA-N
and saved FLASH1 FLASH2 and EEPROM to a new folder .
Reflashed the renegade 510 with the WORKING Flash 1, Flash2 and eeprom
It took it nicely along with the switch box detected even starts on channel " VIRGEN MARRY" (black screen only) that I was watching last nigt on my bedroom with my 510
RESULTS: "ERROR 349"
What am I doing wrong?

I have never seen one that would need flash 1 written, I AlWAYS write flash 2 only. The last one I did was a DFJA, it worked fine.

Are you SURE the hard drive has been resized to 80 gig? The system info screen should show it as a 508, NOT a 510.

I claim you know just about everything on the 510. Lots of experience = lots of knowledge
I overlooked the screen reading 510 instead of 508
Of all my married HD's in line, the one I was having problems with was @120 GIG. For some reason I didn't downgraded to 80 only fast formatted. Since the unit didn't work with the HD disconnected I kept going redoing everything but checking the HD.

No problem,

with 7FFFFFAC at 0000, there are only 2 things that will prevent the use of a blue card, hard drive size and early tsop firmware versions.

Well, ....I got 12 more HD formatted and ready to to get married as soon as I start to moded tonight. I never seen SAMSUN HD in a 510 I got 3 and 2 SEAGATE the rest are MAXTOR so, we'll see how this HD Bigamy with a single 510 goes.

With that many under your belt you guys got to be better at soldering then me. I barely did one and all those tiny spots to solder for jtag made me buggier then all get out. lol

The 510 is setup as a yellow card only PVR, and needs modded to accept blue or magic cards, this is all covered very thoroughly in the discussions.
A 510 needs to be converted to a 508 by resizing (changing reported LBA) of the harddrive to be 80 gig.
The 510 also needs to be vid modded to set location 7FFFFFAC to 0000.
The 510 conversion is not a beginners task, and I have seen many bad ones due to inexperienced people attempting to mod them. There is some bad info out there too, the 3 wire vid mod is prolly the most comon fault, it will burn one up.
The places that require soldering to are extemely small and it is easy to pull the traces off the board if you are not careful.
My advise has always been, if you can't afford to lose one, don't attempt to mod it, cause if you are not exactly sure what you are doing, you can ruin it, (but then you'll get a nice new 120 gig harddrive for your PC). You can pick up a new 510 for about $180, used for $150 or so, so it's not too terrible if you smoke one.
I have done enough of them I can knock one out in a short time, while I read about others fighting them for days or weeks.

How do you resize the HD to 80 GB ? Do you have to do something in Jkeys ? I have one that's been moded but its sitting at P199 and it just won't update. The sys info screen shows 501/508/510 so I think the HD needs to be resized. Its supposed to show 508.
