Hey folks, I'm hoping to get some help...

My Fortec star lifetime ultra system is setup with one dish pointed at Echo 148 and getting a signal quality and quantity in the 90's I power scan and it picks up a whole bunch of transponders...but when i go to do the satellite scan that actually picks up the channels and lists the TV ones on the left and RADIO on the right...it doesn't even go above the 0% ! Instead it just sits there for a few seconds and then the receiver just shuts down and restarts...then all i get is a list of channels on the left with nothing but "SCRAMBLED OR BAD CHANNEL" for each one.

I have the AL7Bar hack on there, and i updated the key code as indicated elsewhere in this forum (Dec 2, 2004). Please help !!

Thanks

Thanks ! I'm trying to see Echo 148, though, and scan in it's channels...I know I have a good signal (90%) on 148, so I think the dishpointing is good... I just wanted to know what might be wrong with the receiver that makes it unable to scan the channels and just shows "scrambled or bad channel "...

Did you turn on the default key? here is how to do it.

• Note that there is no need to enter KEYS because the AL7Bar FTA Ultra…bin flash file sets them for you.

• In “Main Menu”: Go to “Channel Edit” / “Code” / Enter Password “1668” / Go to Key Code function – if it is not set to “ON”, then right arrow on the remote, enter “1668” and the Key Code function will turn ON.

• Go to “Set Default Key” and press “OK”.

• Exit back to the Main Menu.

Thanks, Hound... that worked to allow me to scan satellites....I'm now running into an interesting problem though...I point my dish at what I think is 61.5 ( the sat I want) and I end up with strong signals on a whole bunch of satellites (110,119,148, Nimiq1, Nimiq2, Intelsat5). I scanned all of them , and I'm basically getting nothing but the all the BEV channels wide open ( a couple of hundred including all PPVs). Under System info my Al7Bar is version 2.47, Boot Ver : 6.1 Sep 20 2004(Nt) ... Do you think that has anything to do with anything ?

... confused... :-S

Thanks for your help !

The scan picks up a lot of signals good or bad. If you are not getting 61.5 I dont believe your aim of dish is good. You can pick up aiming tools on the net to get the azimuth and elevation for the sat for your location and rough it in with a compass. I would suggest finding a channel list that 61.5 on it and loading it on the receiver. Tune to a channel you know on the sat and dial in the sat by moving the dish. This is easier to do with the receiver and a portable tv hooked next to the dish if you do not have a signal finder tool.
