Hi there
I am trying to help a relative set up his FTA receiver. He has a Fortec Lifetime but it seems to me that too many people have tried messing with it and I would like to know if there is a way to reset it to factory settings. I have a Pansat personally and I know that you can with them so I am wondering if anyone out there knows how to do this to the Fortec receiver. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks in advance.

Hi! in your menu you should find where to reset you will have to put in password
should be 1010 .
I have done it a few times myself .

That's too bad because when I plug the receiver in to get to the menu to try that the screen just flashes really quickly (you can see the languages but can't see where anything is to actually make a choice) and I cannot read what is on it. Have you ever heard of this? Would there be anything I could do to stop it?

Hi! Try this turn your unit on then press menu ,then once in menu
press down button twice
press OK
Press left or right arrow until you get back to NTSC (screen should stop rolling)
press OK

Okay that worked great. My next problem is that I went to the Fortec website and downloaded everything I needed. I hooked the receiver up to the computer, and sent the information to it. I waited until it said Download complete before disconnecting, but when I hooked it back up to the TV now it won't turn on. The green light just keeps flashing on the front.
This has become a nightmare. The Pansat I have worked slick right away and I am at a loss with this one. I appreciate all the help/advice.

Hi! what a bummer after all that .you may have to j-tag it to get it going but I read at the Al7bar tk site some got lucky flashing the factory bin and got them up and running try that first if not then do the j-tag.
When I flash I always make sure I have it set right before I flash like flash on flash rom and boot to boot..

I'm pretty sure that fortec will run on the pansat flash.

Hi! I missed the part that said night rider lights no need to j-tag use the factory bin file to get you back to square one then use boot file then the newest flash I believe it`s Al7bar 237 pko rev 1 bin ,that should get you going.

The Fortec Lifetime will not take a pansat flash. Do as Wolf says, reload the factory firmware, if the unit comes back up check system info with remote and if it is running 6.0 boot, proceed to reflash the 241pko bin revised 041202. Be sure the unit is a Lifetime and not a Lifetime Ultra. The two different units required different firmware bins and different al7bar bin flashes and the bins are not compatible with each other. If you have an ultra it will say so on the front of the case. If you have an Ultra, use the same format as for the Lifetime except the al7bar bin is the 247pko api revised 041202.

hound Iknow I read before that it will take the pansat flash so I went to the bigest FTS site(that I know of)(70000+ members) and posted the question-here is the answer:
"Yes I can confirm the fact that fortec and pansat are compatibable with each other's firmware(like BL flashes). So what that means is that if u flash the pansat with the fortec bin then your pansat will become a fortec. Alternatively if u flash the fortec with the pansat bin your fortec will become a pansat. Yes the files are a bit different but at the same time very similar. Also keep in mind that depending on the flash thats applied to the receiver, u need that particular remote to control it. So if u flash your reciever with pansat bin then u need a pansat remote and if flashed with fortec bin then u need a fortec remote."

Okay. I use the factory bin file and reset it to original status which works like a charm and make that stupid night rider problem go away - it turns on and I get a menu and all is good. However, I can not get any boot file to go into the receiver, I am not sure if that is because I am doing it incorrectly or because the receiver sucks but that is the story. So, I tried just flashing it with the newest flash I could find but then I am back to the night rider and it not turning on. So, I am now down to two questions, first of all does anyone know how to find out what boot file it is on and have instructions how to make it go as I get an error message that says it is not compatible but it ver 6 which I have been told is the newest and my receiver is a Fortec Lifetime? And where do I find out what boot file is currently in the receiver? Any help, comments suggestions are muchly appreciated.

I will repeat again the Fortec Lifetime will not take a pansat bin flash and never has. The Fortec Lifetime Ultra will take a pansat flash. The two fortec units are complete different creatures. Be advised the New Fortec Ultras will no longer work with a pansat flash. Unless you are a dedicated tester and know what you are doing and know how to restore the unit back to original condition the days of cross flashing the Ultra and pansat are coming to an end.

Use the fortec factory loader or the al7bar stb updater and be sure you are flashing to the boot. I usually do a boot flash and then follow it up with current api bin flash and then a channel list.

I am using the STB Uploader - v.3.31 ( August 08, 2004) from the fortec website. Now when you are telling me to make sure I am flashing to the boot, does that mean on the STB Uploader that I select Flash Rom File as opposed to Boot File when I send the file to the receiver? (my only choices are Flash Rom File, Channel Data File and Boot File). What I did was select Boot File for the Boot version and Flash Rom File for the latest version api bin- does that sound correct?

yes you are flashing to correct bin and boot areas. are you entering the correct stb name with the fortec loader? Be sure to let the unit complete downloading.

Hi! Have you tried typing in the numbers of the boot file, myself I use the Al7bar tool loader does`nt ask for model type but you must make sure you flash with the right settings like flash to flash rom and boot to boot.you can find that tool loader here in the FTA section called kit 1 .
I have boot Ver60_040515 on my fortec star.good luck..
But like hound says make sure you have right stb type with the fortec tool loaders ....

Thank you once again.
So I downloaded "Kit 1" as you suggested and used it to put boot Ver60_040515 and newest api bin I could find which was Firmware - v.2.38NTSC from the fortec website. Thankfully and thanks to you it worked and my receiver booted up after doing this. As originally stated my own receiver is a pansat and I have not done a fortec before but with the pansat I also loaded a channel list through gTools so that when I went to the receiver I didn't have to scan for channels. Because I do not see this option here anywhere I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on scanning for channels - I am hooked up to BEV 91. I tried going to Antenna setup and then selecting Nimiq1 and scanning the channels but when I select any channel it says Bad or Scrambled but the same dish plugged into my Pansat works on bevnim91.
Any suggestions or help are greatly appreciated.
