No u cannot get dtv with fta unit. As for 2mo's left with dn only they know how long it will be up, some say sept 2005. They are haveing a big prob with the older ird's with replaceing of the yellow cards. So it may take longer then they think. If u buy one now and watch 4 or 5 special events it has paid for it self. So jump in the water is fine.

I would say at least Sept '05 probably Jan '06.
Either way will pay for itself within 3 months!!!!

They will work if someone figures out how to decode the Nagra2 stream and if the software will fit on the current hardware. How ever if they change the stream to say mpeg4 or some other stream format that could make it much more difficult to get work with DVB which's standard is mpeg2

I am sure that charlie will not want to replace actual current hardware for their customers as there are soo many, and that would be a great financial loss, as apposed to changing just the encryption system. So as long as it is a software fix, yes someone will figure out how to hack the stream and we will be back to watching tv. Now if all the good channels go HD, then they can change hardware, as there is reason for consumers to upgrade. I dont think the current batch of FTA recievers support HD signals...

"yes someone will figure out how to hack the stream and we will be back to watching tv.".Is that before or after DTV is hacked??? Better keep an open mind here things are changing for the bad for "Free Tvers". In case you haven't noticed(don't know how long you've been around) this hobby has gotton tough with everything that is happening.
