pansat newbie ?

Hi guys, i have a modified pansat 2500a, i know how to change the roll keys via remote when needs to, but my question is, if your receiver is already modified, why and when would one need to use the serial cable to make any other modifications to the receiver, i just don't understand that part as yet, bear with me, i am new to

If it goes down other than a key change then you have to reflash it and that has happened in the past
