Total Newbie. What is a boot file, and what is it used for? Can someone please help me out.
Thanks in advanced

A simple explanation is that the boot file is the master file that contains the s/w that controls how the receiver operates and interacts with sub routines added to the s/w whereas the bin file controls that part of the operation that actually enables the receiver to deciper the signal and the channel bin is the channel memory, the later two being sub routines s/w. It is kind of like the same system on a computor except they can not modify the boot program as does os's on your pc. It is kind of interesting that any change to the boot file will also delete any channel memory from the receiver.

Thanks for the explanation! I am currently using a fortec ultra lifetime. I flashed it with the latest bin and I did not load any boot file and my receiver is picking up bev signal without any issues.
