Question: Using Unsupported Hard Drive in a DP501???????

Hi

I have a 80gig Western Digital Performer hard drive from my Tivo,
which I would like to zero out and use in my DP501 making it into a
DP508

I've heard this can be done but only using earlier software
versions
and a hex editor to modify the flash to make it compatible with the
HD.

Is there a thread or a FAQ on this subject??

Yes if you do the search you should be able to find it. try HD or HD remarry or compatiable hd.
Save the flash
open it in hex workshop
Do a search for one of the compatiable HD's in the flash and replace the model with your uncompatiable model. YOu will have to replace every instance of compatiable with uncompatiable. Also if you get a firmware upgrade automatically you will have to redo this every time.
