3500 sat signal nag

i have a buddy who has a 3500 ird with rom 10 plastic and rom 11plastic.
he does his full cleans and writes programs to both, but he gets the same problem of ...acquireing sat signal... every few minutes using either one of his cards. we assume that it is the ird, but what of the ird is causing this? i think it may need a software update, but its not asking for one, and i'm not even sure if there are any updates for the 3500 anymore.
any help would be very much welcomee.

I had a receiver that would lock onto signal for a few minutes and then it would drop off I think it was a 3900. I sent it back to the guy I bought it for a exchange something in the receiver was bad, the way I confirmed this was I went to the sattelite dish pointing screen and just watched the meter it would go from 125 to 0 in a second, then kick back up to 125. It was the receiver causing this.

i just converted a 3500 over to bev and when i would select info 0n the remote ,the receiver would power off and go to aquring sat signal i noticed this on a couple grey boxs now, i used a diiferent remote and all is good no reset to sat signal
not sure why the remote would cause this it was a remote from a 1000 ird black with the page buttons on the bottom anyone else have this isssue

one thing you might want to try is a check switch and do a receiver hard reset 6,3 info,right arrow, left arrow,tv video, (within 4 seconds) unplug ird plug in should be reset i ve had these 2 things make ird s do strange things
