Any info on WTF is up over there
I see a lot of rumors elsewhere that they were part of a big RCMP bust in Ontario. But I haven't heard anything concrete yet.
DSSarena.com and his associates got pinched by RCMP this past week. Raids in Montreal and one in Toronto. The cloner was supplying all these guys with cards, atmegas, programmers, etc.

Any chance the cloner will also get pinched?
If I were him I'd be thinking of an extended Kenyan holiday just about now.

If am unsure about something I keep my mouth closed. Sometimes I keep my mouth closed when I know things to be a fact too.

Mili how you think it looks for AT?
I know you might not know for sure , but are you willing to guess?
No I got no idea why they closed and I do not speculate. I wish they come back up for the sake of the community.

Just an FYI It wasn't dssarena that got pinched in Montreal. It was CHICOCanada.TV
When shit happens all sorts of rumors fly, dssarena's site went off the air at the same time, strange conincidence. If you can share info pleae do so.

Ats is very reputable. I know if there was any indication of trouble, all files and the web site would be purged. His #1 priority is his members. I hope things are fine over there.............

cincidude! finally a familiar face errr person. Any news from any of the other guys over there? I guess you'll have to start a NASCAR season here right?
Ok it has been confirmed, it was atsdss.com, xenontech.com and dssarena.com that got
pinched last week. ATSDSS was host to some of the best technical discussions on Dish 5 years ago, back in the day! Interesting, their forums went underground about a year ago...but they still got nailed.

Yes, good to see a few from "THE OLD" place. I know I had been hoping he was just having new server problems but I guess that just isn't the case. I know I don't post a lot but that place was my daily / regular read for 4years. Heck I just learned how to cook Prime Rib a few months ago from there.
If you's hear anything more or find more lost souls let us know, and if there is anyway to help AT.
Now for the Nascar Pool ???
later, Chapster5
I am also one of the regulars from AT's site (for almost 4 years) but under a different NIC. Hope to see more as after being on Mili's site, I think it is a good one to.

There is a site that a few of the Guys set up, but I think it members by invite. I was invited, and my account there is still good, but I always went there through a link at the site. I never put the link in my favorites.
It was just a discussion place, no files or DSS discussion........Hope they send me another link.........can't remember the name sorry...........

Welcome, everyone from ATS. :) Make yourselves at home; we are honored to have you here. I see another group from ATS is congregating over at ID...nice of them to swing the doors open.
I, too, hated to hear the bad news. Good bunch of guys there; I've had a blast in the "We The People" forum since the place went private. I'll never forget the very first time I posted there - made LearningMan mad as hell (is anyone surprised :p ) and we got into a bigtime fracas. Why I wasn't banned, I'll never know. Anyway, I scrubbed my username and signed up under another John Doe....and became friends with the guy. He never found out who I was :D
I can sit back and laugh about it now - and occasionally, I catch myself wondering who LM really was...and where he ended up. I'm quite sure I'll never know.
I'm sure AT needs all the support he can muster right now, so here's to ya, bro...hoping everything turns out for the best. ;)

LM was very good people, kinda testy at times but over all a very stand up guy,
He helped me when I first strated, via site as well as phone, he would challenge me often as would ruger. hate to see any thing bad happen to anyone in the hobby, but even more so my mentors

AT told his story over at another site yesterday. Obviously, out of concern for his family, members and his own legal position, not all the details were revealed.
Long story short - DTV busted his entire operation, both the ATSDSS forum and his Zenontech sales site. They turned his offices (and those of "Alien Princess") upside down, their computer forensic experts "mirrored" his/her hard drives, and at one time, had 10 agents combing their places. His comments about the bust itself were that the DTV investigative group was totally polite, professional, and deadly efficient. They got everything he had - he's done, there's no coming back.
The good news (for him) is that the case brought against him by DTV is CIVIL - meaning he won't be doing any jail time. They agreed to settle out of court, sparing him and his family prolonged agony (and probably a great deal of money)
I can only imagine the financial ramifications. He's hurting bad - and being the gracious person that he is, shoulders all the blame himself. Too bad - he was one of the best in the business - and will be missed.
For those who'd like to speak with him, he (and lots of former ATS forum members) are over at the After Hours site - which is basically a non-DSS, discuss-anything place. Stop by over there and give him your best if you get the chance. Put on your flak jacket before you register. :p

Haha...I know you, Rowsdower - and I can assure you, you won't get gagged. Get on over there in the Political Discussions forum (or any other forum) and cut loose. We have two nice liberal mods on board (JT, BirdieMod) - they've got your back, buddy.... :D
We don't have no-holds-barred forums here where members are allowed to call other members motherfuckers and such - but other than that, feel free to speak your mind. Damn good bunch here, if I say so myself. :)

Chief, could I have a little help with the address to the after hours site? I did a google search but I don't seem to be finding it. I was with AT since the early days and would like to read up on this a little bit. I just sent him some donation money right before this happened. My Main computer also went down about the time this happened and when I tried to access the site from my kids computer I could not find it, so I sent him an email and I am concerned about that. I would just like to see if he had any advice for former members or if former members are giving each other advice in the aftermath of all this.

This was once a semiprivate site - but since their admin posted the link over at ID yesterday, I'm assuming he won't mind if I post it here.

Hey, I'd take acception to that if it weren't true :p As far as I'm concerned everyone who wants to migrate here from ATS is more than welcome. I did not participate there from the time they went private, but the ATS crew is a great bunch of folks as far as I'm concerned. Take a look around guys and hopefully you will like what you see and stick around. Your welcome here any day.

Hi all,
I was also an ats member since oct 2000. It is very sad about what happened. I had nothing but good memories there. It was a great place to hang and chit chat.
Like they say "all good things must come to an end" sooner or later. To bad it was sooner instead of later.
This place seems to be friendly so let the reading begin....

Chief,
Holy Crap!! How the hell can DAVE get a search warrant for a civil case? How do they use law enforcement to do their dirty work? I can almost understand if it were criminal charges(DMCA). But,civil? There must be some constitutional issues here. There must be!!
Chief
02-28-2005, 11:57 PM
Don't know for sure, Pyotr....since I'm not familiar with Canadian law and exactly how DTV is going about prosecuting these matters.
I'm guessing that DTV and AT came to an agreement...DTV most likely told him that they would agree to drop any and all criminal charges in exchange for an undisclosed sum of money. A BIG sum of money.
As for the RCMP, they're no different from the law enforcement in the US or any other country - money talks, bullshit walks. A simple matter for Dave to pay them enough money to look the other way, while he goes in there and tosses the place. Canada is most definitely no place to hide from DirecTV... :(

Canada is most definitely no place to hide from DirecTV... :(
Dealers-yes
End users-definately no
Since you cannot legally buy a subscription, it has a zero value, and you cannot be prosecuted for stealing something that is #1 unavailable, and #2 has no value.
However, If I provided him my name and address, Dave could tell the RCMP that I'm circumventing the Canadian radio-telecommunications act, but there is no way Dave could come up here and do anything to me, the end user.
