what up-
I was thinking about getting a pvr ird but im reading a lot of issues with them...i was wondering if the dp511 in the dssftp shop is OK to get and mod.
Also - is it gonna be worthless for me to put 300 down for a receiver which may not hold with the nagra 2's that are coming out?
BTW - i am willing to buy a ird from someone if they want to get rid of theirs as long as I can use it and its not ECMMed.

Did you read the product descroption?? The 511 is USELESS for hacking......
...it's useless because it's a camless receiver. i.e.- there is no access card. All that info is on the funky new chip in the receiver and there is no hack for it yet. Just physically speaking, that chip is pretty darn unaccesable too. I don't have a great deal of hope for hacking the camless IRD's. That chip is just too damn hard to work with. Someone is going to have to figure out a way to program it in line if we are ever to do anything with it.

It says right in the add it's quote "usless for hacking".

It only works with nagra2. So it will only work if nagra2 fix ever becomes a reality.

Time to start looking around. If you want a PVR you need to be looking for a DP501 or DP508. Preferably the 501. I don't know much about the 508 but, I do know it requires some extra more complicated steps to get it ready for testing. The 501 is much simpler to get going. Assuming you get lucky and it dosen't need the vid mod. Try to find one that came with a blue card.

Great minds think alike. We must have been typing our answers all at the same time.

The stars must have been aligned just right or something.....I don't know though t160hq, you might not want to degrade yourself by putting yourself in the same catagory with me...... :p
BTW- did you try the ferrite bead thing I was talking about? I've used it to get perfect picture on four IRD's now. The closer you can put the ferrite bead to the emu board the better off you are. Not a lot of room in the 301, but there is enough if you work with it a bit. I've had the best results putting the ferrite bead right next to the emu board.

Thanks....that sums it up for me....any ideas on how to figure out if the 501 is in need of a vid-mod?
like ie thru the serial number or something?
i looked on ebay but where else can i buy shit for testing? w/ modded stuff on it

Serial numbers won't tell, cause it could be a refurb, and have at least one GT chip, really only way is to look at flash chips

bsshoomez,
Both Westwaves and IMG on Ebay sell refurbed 501's and 508's. So, one from either of them would require a Vid Mod and then a TSOP/EEPROM lock. Look for a 501 that comes with the original blue Rom 3 or Rom 10. Then it's still sketchy because either U6 or U7 could be GT chips.
When you get a chance, check your PM.

i have had a 508 PVR and have not had any problems with it. have the AR105C lock installed and it has been running problem free for about a year now. plus you have more memory for more recording time than the 501.

Love my 7200 with a 40 gig in it. I got about 20 Thomas da cho cho train shows on it. I did just get another one and its working good also with rom10. I also got a 510 with a yellow card and 120 gig drive. I haven't worked on the 510 yet, but plan on fixin' er up soon as I can. Can I use a normal dish remote with the 510 or do I need one of those silver PVR UHF remotes?
It doesn't have to be UHF, but you do need the official remote for that 510.
