Anybody know about Ilo DVD recorders?? They are sold at walmart. They have a DVD recorder for $139 and a TV recorder with 80 gig harddrive for $250. I know they are made in China but everything is. RCA, Sony, panasonic all the DVD recorder are so I doubt there is any difference. Anybody heard anything about them??

make sure it can finalize a disc or else they will only playback on that receiver. I spent $300.00 canadian on a sanyo from cosco and i had to take it back because of that reason.

Man this is sure more complex than a VHS tape. What do you mean finalize a disc? I have a bunch of reading put have not came across this.

Thanks

most new dvd recorders allow you to finalize the disc. for my panasonic you go to menu, disc settings and click on finalize. The it writes info to the disc. It takes about 2 minutes and then says your disk has been finalized and can only be used for playback. In other words you cant record on that disc anymore. Say you record a program in ep or "extended play" on a +r or -r blank dvd you have 6 hours of recording space or time. If you record a movie that is only 2 hours you can stop the recording and you will still have 4 more hours of recording space left. Even know your blank dvd is not a rw or "rewriteable" disc. you can still record on that unused disk space at a later date but because you didnt finalize the disc, that disc will only play in the machine you used to record the movie. No other machine will recognize that disc. So dont finalize the disc untill you have recorded everything you wanted to on it.

The only problem I have is when I record a program that is 3 hours long, I have to set it for 4 hours. Then when I leave for something and it fills up to 4 hours of recording, I cant figure out how to delete that 1 hour of extra recording.

you cant delete the extra hour unless its a rewriteable disc. if its just a -r or +r its on that disc forever.
