Hey Guys,

I was trying to get some answers last week regarding a 3800 i have that is not taking the update. I put a working 2800 TSOP on it erased sa5 put a virgin eeprom onto it and i believe that i've done everything right. Still, it will not take the update, i'm not an expert at this by any means but i know my way around a little, this is the only receiver that i've ever had that i couldn't bring back. Is it becuase i'm putting a 2800 TSOP on a 3800 and erasing SA5 rather than 30? whenever i try to put a 3900 TSOP on it i get an error writing to it after 25% because it's exceeding the memory of the IRD (i believe). Really confused about this, any help that someone could give would be awesome. Thanks guys, and thanks for having the best DSS Site on the web.

Should be a 2 meg tsop in that 3800. Sounds like jkeys is seeing the 2800 firmware you have on it and not allowing the write.

Try manually selecting 3800 from the pull down menu in jkeys. Then do a full erase and try writing a older 3800 firmware with the same build.

Also create a virgin eeprom with flashedit using the 3800 tsop file you are going to write. Then write the virgin eeprom file as well. While in flashedit make sure you add your boxkeys and ird numbers. Check the fix CRC box then save the tsop file using save personal dump option. Do this before creating the virgin eeprom image.

For me it's standard practice to ground pin 1 of the jtag port on the receiver when I been playing around and messed up one like this. Ran into these sort of problems with 3900 conversions to bev using a 2700 tsop. Ended up grounding pin 1 and manually selecting the model in jkeys for proper erase and write.

After you get a older 3800 version working let it stream update without erasing any sectors. If it works then jtag again and save the working tsop for the next time you need one.

ok, i got a TSOP from the bank... i put it on there it worked and location id was not 0001 but all channels were gone other than the radio and 101... with a working .pfg i erased sa30 and just put it in the stream but it's just sitting there... not sure if i did this right, put virgin eeprom on it and so forth and followed your instructions but not i don't think it's going to take update and the software that appeared to be one there looked acient. Am i doing it right or wrong? Thanks for your help, bringing this ird back from the dead.
