Lots of rumors floating around about why. But bottom line 30 days and they are gone.
I suspected something when I heard dish bought their sat. Guess it just didn't bring enough to keep em going.
One rumor I heard was they were loosing 50 mil a month. Can't sustain those sort of losses without some deep pockets. My guess was it was more like 5 mil a month. Still that dosen't sound like pocket change. At least not for me. :-)

if voom were to offer one flat fee of $50.00 a month for all wide open channels. they would be kicking everybody ass. charlie, dave, i think even mili & all the testers will be forced out of business as well.

Programming price was no doubt a major factor. Couple other factors killed them as well.
For one their timing was off. Too early. Not enough HDTV equipment in the market. Even with the amount of HDTV Voom carried, it's still hard (for me at least) to justifiy the 1000 to 6000 expenditure for the TV's.
The other factor and most important for me. Is no ability to record the program and watch it when I can. They just never play the shows I like when I can watch em. For me it would be a huge waste of money. This reason alone is the deciding factor in my not jumping on the HDTV band wagon just yet.
If the folks that provide the programs have their way we will never be able to record a program again. Lots of them are trying to prevent that option with HDTV. That will be the final blow for HDTV if it happens. It's one of those unique markets where the sellers dictate to the customers instead of the other way around as it should be.
If it's still around in about 4 years I'll reconsider it. Until then I'll stick with what still works.

Nice to see ya t160hq. :)
I agree. For now, I just run Sony Trinitrons and Vega's. A decent LCD TV is just too damn expensive still, and I wouldn't be cought dead throwing down the kind of money they want for plasma knowing what I know about them. The expense to get into HDTV now days is still too darn high for most folks. In addition, part of the reason Charlie and Bev are switching to N2 is because that rom will handle the demands a bunch of HDTV channels will put on it. Either Charlie, Dave or both will be offering a lot more HDTV channels when the market supports that. I don't think Voom ever had a chance. Even in 4 years, HDTV will still be a specialty item IMO....but in 4 years a lot more people will have invested in the high quality monitor so they can benifit from HDTV service.

What's Voom?
It's a sat company that covers mostly HD channels

Haven't you guys seen the new DTV commercials? There are going to be offering a lot more HD Channels come this summer.
Think a lot of people are missing my point in this disscussion. No slam intended 1438.
No matter if the station is capable of brodcasting 1090i. If the program content is not recorded or remastered for 1090i. It won't be any better than what is currently available.
I have a lot of older dos games I like to play. They were all written for the older CGA type video format. Even though I now play them on the newer True color 32 bit format at 800x600 they don't have any more color or clearer defination then when played on a much older CGA DOS system.
Until the content matches the capability I don't see HDTV going anywhere. A whole new market for those with more ambition then me. Remastering older video for HDTV. Much like colorizing older B&W movies for color tv!
Jump in early and make millions. Another great idea provided by:
