First off, this will be a long story. I've had some bad luck with this. The past few days, I've been trying to bring back a receiver that had the Loc ID 00000001 problem. So I erased SA5 and put it in the stream. Apparently, I got a corrupted firmware download because the location ID went to 00000000 and I got the dreaded -F . I was only getting channel 101 and no guide on the ROM 3 card I had in it. So today, I went to redo the card and found it looped. Below is the message from Nagra 2.0

Opening of COM1 was successful
Logging into card
ATR String: D1 DA 6D FF FB 95 FF FF CD 09 19 19 69 89 19 FB
69 89 D1 09 FB 39 79 B1 D9 4F AF
Card ATR is invalid
Error reading image from card

So to continue, I put the card in the freezer, ran bugbusters thousands of times, still no good, bad ATR and getting worse, lots of FF's and 00's. So I put the card back in the freezer.

Now this is where it gets really weird !!!

Then I decided to mess with the receiver so I hooked the JTAG to my PC and opened JKEYS. First, I erased SA5 six times. Next I saved the eeprom, opened it in a hex editor, kept the first 48 bytes, and FFed out all the rest. Then I wrote it back to the eeprom. Next I put it in the stream to update. When it was done, the location ID had some letters and numbers, but the -F was still there. Also, my eeprom had a CBSD config, but the System Info screen shows CBSA and firmware is 833P. I shut it off and turned it back on, and it asked for the card. So I said "What the heck", and got the looped card from the freezer. So then a screen comes up that says I'm not authorized to receive this channel. So I hit the Guide, and guess what, I had a guide!!! Then I scrolled to Ch 101 and hit it. A screen comes up that said the channel was locked and to enter the password. I scrolled to "OK" and hit the button. I was now watching 101 !!! So I went down through the guide and chose another channel, got the "channel is Locked" screen, clicked ok, and voila, I was watching!! Bear in mind that this is with a looped card. Tried other channels and I could watch once I "unlocked" them. So I went to the menu and "unlocked " the system just by clicking on OK.

So being curious, I pulled the card out and tried to read it again. Nagra 4.1 just says Bad ATR, can't read card. I opened Nagra 2.0 and got same as above:

Opening of COM1 was successful
Logging into card
ATR String: D1 DA 6D FF FB 95 FF FF CD 09 19 19 69 89 19 FB
69 89 D1 09 FB 39 79 B1 D9 4F AF
Card ATR is invalid
Error reading image from card

So other then wanting a phone connection for my PPVs, I'm watching tv with a looped card!!! How can this possibly be ???? I'm a veteran tester of the "other" provider and have never seen anything like this. I just can't believe my eyes.
I've never heard of anyone watching tv with a looped card. Either that or I'm thinking this new 833P firmware has something to do with it, maybe rewriting the eeprom on the card, changing the ATR, so now we can't get into the cards.

Whatever, I'll watch as it is until either the card or receiver gets hit. There's not much else I can do. Very strange, very strange indeed !!!!!!

First of all you need to distinguish between the TSOP and Eprom...they are different..

If you get 0000001 then it's a TSOP hit ...
If it's 0000000 then it's an Eprom hit...

-F means the Eprom is corrupted....NOT the TSOP...

You still get the ATR reply so the card is not looped....there must be something else..

The -F is still there b/c when restream it'll get the TSOP only ...not the Eprom...

Indeed it is strange that you got it to restream but somehow screwed up the Eprom..

Anyway grab a matching motherboard build and send it through FlashEdit to get the clean TSOP's and virgin Eprom then write it all back ...

It will work until the tiers expire.
more of a locked card than looped.

maybe try to glitch it!
But I would guess when the tiers expire so does the card.
if you do not get ecm'ed all the time using it, I would say it will be a target

I know the difference between the 2. AT first, I had a location ID problem, so I cleaned SA5 (2800 IRD) and restreamed. THEN I got location ID 00000000 and the -F. SO I prepared a virgin eeprom, loaded it to the IRD for the -F, then I cleaned SA5 again and restreamed it. After all that I have a good Loc ID, but still have the -F, which I don't quite understand since I flashed a virgin eeprom to it. It really doesn't matter much since I can't get into the card, so I'll just watch while I can and then send the card to someone to see if they can read it.

Mystery solved!! It was a loose cable from the ISO reader to the PC, causing the bad data to Nagra. Fixed that and got a good card read.
