emulation, emulator board?

Hi,
I'm starting out with dish testing, I'm very familiar with DTV but stumped on one question, what emulator boards I can use with DP301/3100? I've read, one chip emulator/zapulator would need modified serial controller, is there a way without modifying serial controller?

Also what do you need to emulate, hardware wise? Software out of the question but do you need actual card to emulate, iso programmer? Any tips would be apreciated.
