I am currently piggybacking of someone's wireless setup. Is there anyway they can find out that I am using their "suff?" Thanks!

The only clue I can think of is that they might experience a latency spike when you connect. If they aren't playing any online games I doubt they'd notice it.

could you give me a "how to" to clean up my tracks?

001438, I tried to access the home page, but a username and password screen came up. Why would a person who sets this up not set up a WEP? Thanks!

by the way, does anyone know of any good programs to break (extract packet) from WEP systems. Airsnort didn't help really because of necessary wireless card driver(s) (I have an internal one - compaq presario)???

Thanks everyone. 001438, are you saying that I could put a password on the LOG, or my connection?? I'm not too familiar with this. Thanks in advance.

He meant put a password on the router, so they can't even log in and check up on you.
I've seen some routers have
USERNAME: admin
PASSWORD: admin or blank

Ok, i get it. But, will people normally try to enter their router? B/C if they try and can't get in (and, only I can) , wouldn't they call their service provider?

Or, should I just put in my own unique "user" log in instead of the "administrator" log in? Or, will they see that a "user" log in password has been created and get weary?

OKAY, this is what I did. I went "tools," then went under "user" instead of "administrator." There were 15 bullets under "new password" and "confirm password." I entered a 15 digit password. I tried to log on with those, and it worked. I check back under "tools" to see if there was something like "enter old password," "enter new..., and "confirm new." There was only "new password, and "confirm password," and with the original number of bullets. So, they can still log on if they decide to. And, if they enable wep, I can just log on as a user, and get the key(s). Sound good, or is this flawed some way? Thanks in advance.

once they enable WEP, there will be no way for you to get back in because you don't know the WEP key. You need the WEP key to access the router.

I just turn on the WEP for them, that way I know that some other fucker like me isn't sponging from them like I am. Most wireless rounter vary slightly in the way they keep track of activity, so every router will be slightly different but easy to figure out.

I'll run Sniffer for a day or so, that way I know how many computers (more importantly wire-less) are hooked up. If no other wireless devices connect to their router, then I'll secure it and turn WEP on for them. If they have other wireless computers running, then leave the WEP off.

Fro66er, couldn't I, while online (using another ISP), enter their router's addy in the url and log in as a user even if they enable WEP. That way I can check their codes?

Also, wouldn't they get angry if they know someody set up a WEP for them... they woulnd't be able to long in eiher, right? Or, are we assuming they will stay connected all the time?
Thanks!

If they are bright enough not to wep it then I doubt they will figure it out,
there is a program called NEtworkview that will let you scan an entire scope to see all the ip's routers mac addy's and so on they could use and your machine may show up.
but then again If they are bright enough no to know by now then they would not know how to use that program either.

when You logged in what type of router and what model number did it show it as?

The model is DI-61+, a D link

001438, how can I find out if they are using WLAN? When I log on to their router, I see LAN, WAN, and wireless. There is information for each under them too. Which one would I be under? I see wireless as having WEP disabled --> would that be for me? Thanks!
