i have seen different way to vidmod the 301.013 which one is the most reliable and secure and of course the best one
the one from gunthers guide or the one post in the bellexpress.vu site
this is confusing me cause they use different parts like one use a regulator the other a diode for example !!!

They both do the same thing, they just go differet ways to get there.
I think the one bellexpress is a newer design.

Like I said they both do the same thing, they both work fine. look around at prices to buy or parts to build one and make up your own mind what suits you best, some of this stuff can cost $ 40 or $ 50 to buy but if you are handy you can make it for $10, like a J-Tag.
Since they all do the same thing it is strictly personal preferance.
I prefer 301.10's they don't need Vid Mods of internal J-Tags. They have the larger (dual) TSOP .bin's and they cost the same to buy.
Many of the small TSOP models may be phased out with Nagra 2 and MPG 3 coming in to use as the TSOP may not be large enough to handle them. I am getting rid of my single and small TSOP IRD's, just in case.

The stuff they sell to people who hack TV is made special for the market. It is not off the shelf stuff, you want that go to one of the big legal suppliers and pay $100 to $150 for the $40 items.
It is done in small run shops as needed, a dozen or two at a time. Maybe by the guy who sells them himself wiith whatever he / they have laying around at the time. The picture you see in the ad may have been made last year before he changed them, who knows besides the dpdt switch does the same thing as a spdt if you only hook part of it up.

For modding a 301-013, the 7812 regulator method is BY FAR the best.....it is much more reliable and safer method...and really is a lot easier too.
You can remove the center leg, screw it to the board in the open area by the sat in box with the existing screw, which grounds it thru the metal backing, really easy. The 7812, if bought from someplace like Allied or Mouser costs about $0.42.....
I use a DPDT switch and incorporate R79 to ground in the other pole.......so when the mod is on, R79 is grounded......switch only with it inplugged tho....

Best reason for the DPDT.

last thing is the jumper of pad1 to ground describe in the page to avoid dcu peak errors correct ???
i check continuity between pad1 and where is connect in th picture and it doesnt have continuity !!

Pad 1 to ground or R79 to ground will keep the DCU Peak errors down. If you use the DPDT, when you have the Vid mod on and and the wiring correct, you will ground R79 and supply 12V to the SB35.
DPDT setup.
Gnd--R79---Nothing
12V--SB35--The Spot

Doesn't have continuity to what???
Ground.........yes it does......high resistance but there.
To 3.2 VCC, yes it does, about 10k ohms......
Pad 1 or R79 will have 3.2v normally, pulled up thru a 10K resistor, grounding it (before plugging in) pulls it to 0v and will put the receiver in link mode (boot source low), and since it's to 3.2v thru a 10K resistor, it only draws a very tiny amount of current (negligable) from the 3.2v to ground.

so i can connect a wire to pad 1 in the jtag port or to r79 to a leg in a spst switch and another wire from other leg to ground so i can disable and enable ground to pad1 ? like OJ1 in the dp5xx receivers ??

Had to edit because previous post was removed. Wasn't intended for the starter of this thread.

That last post of mine was directed towards you Reaven.
Either way, if you want to run a Vid Mod switch with a R79/Pad 1 to ground, you'll need a DPDT.

I posted my diagram for the DPDT switch in this thread:

Might help
Note the box in the upper right. If you solder a wire from the switch to the center leg of the regulator, then screw the regulator to the board nex to the sat-in box (as skinerd described), R79 goes to ground when in the vidmod position.
