It seems like Panasonic is making money just by upgrading the hard drive on their DMR series!!!!!
Apparently, the Eeprom (or something like it) has the information of the HD model. No matter what hard drive you use it (used as a slave), it will automatically format the drive as a 40 gb drive in HS2 for example. The 40 gb has about 52 hrs. of recording whereas the 400 gb drive (E-500 model) has more than 500 hrs of recording.
There has to be a way to upgrade the drive by flashing that silly chip on the tiny PCB without paying $800.00
