1) Sat Dealer is offering 3 models:

1000-$150.00
3000-$175.00
3100-$275.00
(I should only consider the 3100 because of the JTag interface?) & is it a fair price?

2) My dish for previous Dave has dual LNB (18" Dish), can I use that LNB with dish, and just buy sw21 switch to use for Charles? Or does it have to be a specific dual LNB from Dishpro etc.?

3) I read the best card to get should be the ROM3, and to manually check it before buying with Sat Dealer...AA 01,02...288 02,-08. Is this correct, or should I ask for a different card.

A friend has been getting card done at this dealer for about a year...20.00/month-or until next time card goes down.
He claims his sat goes down only once every six months or so.

Thankyou

all those price are rediculous, even in CAN $$.
1000 and 3000 are practically worthless.
The 3100 is good but you can get for a lot less......

I've said this before but it bears repeating...

At best we may have 6 months before Nagra 2 is fully rolled out, at worst maybe 3 months. I'd advise anyone looking at buying equipment right now to minimize any expeses becuase if Nagra 2 is not hacked this stuff will be collecting dust very soon. Those prices you were quoted are outrageous. Do some more research and save yourself a lot of money.

Those prices are outrageous. It's still better than a sub for the same investment for the same time frame. ....but not for long. Sadly, I'm pretty sure the clock is ticking in terms of enjoying the benifits of this hobby. Roofle's time frame is probably pretty accurate. I'd say at best we have about 8 months, and at worst about three. Unless something major transpires, when the N2 encryption is fully implemented, we're game over in this hobby. It's a sad state of affairs to be sure.

I was weighing the poss. of "Charles in Charge", as opposed to 50.00/mos cable for the next 8 mos or so...but I think this is the wrong time to buy.

When I finally decided for Dave 2 yrs ago, I ended up ahead of the game by 50.00, after all said and done (as opposed to paying cable for the same time period).

I think I'm going to hold off on the Dish sat and just take a couple precision screwdrivers to my cable box...(since it was discontinued today) and wait for a Dave hack...or a Nagra2; and then invest in Charlie.

Thankyou for the replies and very thankful to all the posts and info, and the patience of those: "who know what their talking about". -cause I certainly don't
