A nice long nap while dinner digests is in order

Talk about biting off more than you can chew. Another old saw bites the dust.

Course it might not apply to those that don't chew.

Man that snake probably got tired by the time he got to the end of that tail lol......

OMFG, that snake will take months to digest all of that.

So can anyone else name the snake? Just looking for a common name. That's the biggest one I've seen, even in pictures for this species.

Giant Python

At first look I would say its a reticulated python but after looking at it closer I would say its about a 9 foot yellow anaconda.

Okay, so the snake was able to kill the kangaroo and eat it...but I can't understand why once it has eaten the kangaroo and is lying there all lethargic like some other animal doesn't just come by and eat it and get two dinners for the price of one. Either that or one of the kangaroo's friends comes by and hops on it to death.

If you were an animal roaming around and saw a snake that size, yould you stop and fuck with it?

That's the chance they have to take when they eat something that large.
It takes several days before it can move again.
They usually eat smaller dinners that leave them mobile.
And then they have to cough up the bones.

it is actually a scrub python -morelia amethystina- I keep one :)

I thought it was commonly called an amythist python.....ya got the right genus and species name, so were talking about the same thing. How's the temperment of your snake HelenAJ? How large is yours? Large pythons don't always make the best pets. I know a guy who had a green tree python. Damn that thing was mean. I had to give away a red tailed boa because he got too big. I was having to feed it bunnies and little pigs. It was just too expensive and a general inconvienence. He ended up on display at the local pet store for a few years before they finally got rid of him too. By then he was monsterous.

mine is around 9ft and very aggressive. my husband and i keep over 60 reptiles. we have three common boas. if you want to take a look at some of the species we keep go to www.basking-beasts.com :)

we have kept GTPs as well- i loved them :)

My buddy didn't handle his GTP enough when it was younger. It was a biter. You really had to take it easy with him. I'm not sure snakes come any prettier though. I'd like to get back into rearing snakes. I think it would be really cool to raise Indigo snakes for release. Indigo's are one of the weird snakes that's not posionous and not really a constricter either. They're more like a grab and smash type feeder. I guess a guy has to use acrylic enclosures for them because they smash their prey so hard and they will break a glass tank.

you shouldn't really handle GTPs as they are quite a delicate species- prone to stress.

i really like indigos- i have a friend who keeps the couperi indigos and they have been seen mating.

I guess the indigo's are really prone to getting eggbound, so have your buddy ready to get the snake to a qualified vet when the time comes.....or so the guy I was thinking about getting a pair from says. He will sell a pair that can be used for breeding for only $500. (one male, one female of different family history) I don't know how long it would be before they were old enough to mate. Probably at least a few years. Now I just need to get some rich donor to pay for my endeavor since I want to eventually release them into the wild. ;-)

BTW- I really liked your site. That red GTP is incredible.

thanks :)

I would love to captive breed and then release species in the wild, its just a sad fact that a lot of these species will have no where to go to- soon the only animals we will see with be in zoos and private collections due to deforestation and habitat destruction due to making more homes and more utilities for humans
