I just got my insurance bill and noticed that my bill went up. I called the insurance company to try and find out the reason for the increase in my policy. I have not had any tickets in years and did not know why it went up. When I talked to the insurance company I was informed that the state of North Carolina raised the rates on them and it gets passed on down to us. I am x military and have lived in a bunch of states. I am finding that NC is 1 of the worst in the US for taxes. I also found out that NC is 1 of 2 states that have the worst business taxes in the nation next to New Jersey. And people wonder why there is not any jobs here anymore, Between NAFTRA and the taxes, NC is screwed. I have lived in states up and down the east coast and I never had to pay the taxes taht they have here. If you want to buy a piece of jewlry you have to pay luxury tax, you have to pay taxes on your vehicle every year or they won't allow you to register it. Property taxes here have tripled in the last year. And they have other BS taxes to numerous to mention. I came here in 94 because at that time there were plenty of jobs here. Well that has all changed with all the textiles going overseas, it has killed western NC. There is now a major drug problem here. They are busting Meth labs right and left. In 95 a total of 9 labs were busted in the entire state, last year that # increased to 243 labs. We are not even half way through the year yet and there has already been 35 labs busted in McDowell county alone. Law enforcement has dubbed this county MethDowell. In the local newspaper the Asheville citizen times they keep harping on how bad the meth situation is. If they were so worried about it they would be doing something about the job situaton here. People are going to do what they have to do to feed their families. I personally know 1 man that had never been in trouble with the law his entire life. He lost his job in the mills and when his unemployment benfits ran out he was still jobless. He resorted to burglary to feed his wife and 2 small children. When he was finally arrested he was sentenced to 5 years in prison. When asked how he felt about that, he stated that at least he knows his family will be feed now due to welfare. I left Jacksonville, Fl because of the drug problem there. I am now looking into other states to possibly settle down in. I would not recommend moving to NC to my worst enemy.

Man I know how you fell as I live in NC and have all my Life. there are not that many Jobs here. I work construction as a pipeFitter & welder Supervisor and thank god there is and always been work in that feild. I live in the Charlotte area and the Problem here is yankeeys and Latinos moving here by LARGE #S, and they are Building schools so fast we can't keep up and all the heating and cooling systems are weld pipe and that has kept my family from going hungry for a cpl yrs now, I still work out of town some but not as much as I did at one time. I growed up in a Cotton Mill village and they are only a few left when it was the Back Bone of this part of NC. The taxes are Out of sight here and only going HIGHER, you are so right they have tripled. I only wished I had stayed in the army 20 yrs now but thats hindsight. I worked a Job in Jacksonville, Fl for a year and my son is now 17 and was born there when I was sent to do that job. My wife and I could not wait to get out of that fucked up State.
