Is this a usb device and do you have other usb devices that currently work. Sometimes usb has to be turned on in bios.
hope this helps

The drive should have come with a disk.
First you have to install a USB system and hub (virtual) if you have other USB stuff working already the system is installed and windows should find the drive.
If not you will have to find a USB set up program. Try Microsoft.

The latest SP2 has all USB drives needed.
I am assuming that you have a USB device. All of them that I have seen have an external power supply, make sure that is plugged in. Some have switches on the back, make sure it is on. The HDD that is in the external device needs to be set to Master.
Let us know what happens.

Hitman,
Without more information it's hard to help.
Is the external drive a factory job or a kit?
Is it firewire, usb what version?
Is it scsi, Ide or SATA?
what model is it?
what's your OS?
What's your Mb & BIOS?
I am sure it can be made to work, but i think people including me were assuming you may have had an ideal set of circumstances for installation.

If you have a OEM prepackaged version of XP home those usually do not have the full XP driver files included either. HP is good for cheating you of the full XP versions.
