My dial up sucks so bad out here in the woods that satellite is the only option for me to get high speed internet. Does anyone know about this? I was told that you only get so much bandwidth or something. Can somebody with this fill me in with all the details? Pros and cons....

My next door neighbor has DirecWay and he loves it.......too damn expensive for my taste though......even though it is faster than dsl.........dsl is much cheaper.......but if you have no other choice then I guess it would be worth it.

DIRECWAY is one the top providers of satellite Internet service and you can get it from Rapid Satellite for $99.99 / Month!

Holy Shit! $100/month! That's rediculous. Do you get a premium sub to DTV with that? For that price you should.

I was told that satellite IP was not a really good deal. You are only allowed so many hours of fast downloading before it starts slowing down. Is that true?

So, lets test it. Seems like a good idea to me...

I know ping times are really high, so no gaming on it....back when i read up on it, the equipment was rediculously expensive, and the plans are expensive as well. If you have any neighbors semi close by, you may be better off reading up on wifi. With a couple Linksys WRT54g routers, 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT, or Sveasoft Alchemy, you might be able to get a link and share that neighbors broadband... Just an option, might not help you though. I live on a 2 mile section of road that has no cable, I am just lucky that DSL is availble, but cable would be so much faster, and less expensive.

Sat. Internet is ok if you don’t plan on doing large downloads. On directways better package, you have a 300mg cache per 3 hours. Once you dump the cache you will only receive at modem speed(almost dial up like) and many times you will be cut off altogether for a few hours. Considering the price you pay it sucks. However, it is better than dialup. When they install it, don’t plan on it being ready to go. Around here, they put a pole in the ground and half ass level the pole. A good gust of wind will mess up the reception and leave you feeling sick that you ever bought the damn thing. After building a concrete pad and lining the sat up right, it works ok. Bad thing is after the equip. is paid for it will cost you $80 and change for a decent package. I’m waiting for the Wild Blue sat service to get going. A 512k-download speed is suppose to cost $49.95 a month from them. That’s half of what it cost with Dave. But everyone has to make up his or her own mind. I have a friend who loves his Direct Way but then he has never used DSL before either.

If its faster then your DSL I would hate to live where you do. I can pull 2 500k streams and still surf the net with no problem here at my shop and it still only costs 49.95.

T1 & T3 are commercial data transfer/internet hook ups.

The way to go is Cell phone ..wireless....it's not that much ..and it's fast enough ....I don't have cell service where I kive ..so I'm stuck with Sat....LOL.....

I am sure that the shit sucks out there, Mopar, but you would be investing alot to get Sat internet.

Yes, there is a bandwidth limit on Directway. After so much downloading, it will shut you down. Call them up and ask every question you can think of before you jump into it.

I know this is a old thread but,

Does anyone know how you find which sat you are on & the address to find that sat with different zipcodes.

I travel alot & the rooftop for RVs is $5000.

Has to be a way to do with a spare dish & pole....

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW my service is $69 per month & have never had problem with service...but maybe I don't DL as much as most.

Thanks in Adv,

T1 = 1.536 mbps (symmetric)
T3 = 43.08 mbps (symmetric)

T1 = 24 64k channels , if it's ESF/B8ZS. D4/AMI = 56k per channel
T3 = 28 T1's

I had direcway for awhile as a job pek had to have it to transfer dicom images and the guy I got it from had not paid on his acount in over a year, before I knew of the fair downloading share shit I went crazy one day and downloaded a bunch of shit and got cut off for that day, I did not know what was happening and I tried to upgrade the software and it decommisoned the moden hence no more free sat internet for me.

I seen one of them 18 wheeelers in GA had one mounted on the back of his rig sitting at a place I was visiting so I know there is away to mount it on a r/v.
I noticed he had some extra brackets made onto it but also I know the fucker is pretty heavy I installed it myself but I would not want to do it evryday.
I then looked into "cantena's (using old primestar dish)to wifi of of his T1 from my house to his and was almost complete with the project only had a few tree's to trim and aling the dish'es with a laser thing about .10 of a mile thru wods when me and him had big diference of opinion, he thought I should work for free so that did not work out.

so if possible do like they said and wifi off of nieghbors.

I am a direcway user needing the following info....

I am under the impression that direcway has several sats up there..also that you can only use the one you were assigned, unfortunately they don't want to tell me which it is.
They say it is against FCC rules to setup yourself.

I need to know how you find out which sat you are assigned & how you find coordinates from different locations.

I know is possible, have seen other peeps do this, but they are all quiet as to know how.

Any help would be appreciated,

There are several choices for rV's

I have a manual rig, it lays flat on the roof whan I am moving and a has a handle inside that I crank it up to the proper elevation and rotate it with. I used to travel a lot and got so I could guess on the settings.

It is calibrated in degrees for both settings so if you enter your current zip OR lattatude and Longitude (from GPS) you will get the right sat 99% of the time, those are more sensitive than regular dishes and it is easier fo find them.

Also the more expensive sat finder meters will gve you the # of the sat you are on not just a beep and meter swing . Just run a short cable down by the handle tap the meter in and tune by that.

The one I have is a winegard and cost me $300 several years ago.

They also make motor driven units for RV's from expensive up/down/point TO outragous ones that will track the sat you are on while you drive down the road.

Look at a RV catalog for specs and prices. I like mine, it has worked 10 years, NP

I am talking about the internet sat servuce...I have a in motion for the sat tv, so not a problem there.
Direcway uses different sats for their internet & you have to be on the one assigned or it won't work.
but they don't like to give out that info, they don't want us doing it ourselves.
I need a website or info on how to do it myself, for setting up when I get somewhere by using the zipcode....just like you are doing with the tv dish.

If you or someone can point me in the direction would be appreciated.

Same problem as with direcway...they won't tell you how to set up yourself....doesn't matter to me which I use as long as I can make it mobile for my RV.

I spoke with them yesterday & was told only prof install....even though closest installer is 6 hrs away.

If you know of website that has how-to please pm, for either one.
