Need help real bad had some virus trojan attack my computer while leaving it on for others to download off of the bit torrent that I had. How do I recover some very important files. First the virus disabled my cd drives and it did something to my operating system and now I can not boot up the hard drive . I took the hard drive and hooked it up to another computer that I have and am using the hard drive as the 2nd hard drive, but I can not access the 2nd drive and in order for me to use the 2nd hard drive winxp wants to format it and that is what I don't want to do seeing i will lose all of my important files. Your help would be very much appreciated and thanks in advance for any and all advise.

Hate to tell you but is sounds like you have lost it all.
Since you have 2 computers I recommend using one for the internet with nothing important on it and the other one for good / important files and programs.
I have 1 that is only for the internet and I wind up re-formatting the hard drive frequently.
Lot of bad stuff out there.

If the data is worth the cost to you then look at this product.

I've never had to recover lost data in the fashion that your talking about but, if it was primo stuff, this could be worth a look.

You can try install winxp again, if you are using winxp. Boot from the installation CD, just don't format your drive. Let it install over your old winxp, it is like a new install but all your old files will still be there.
I did the same thing not to long ago to save some files on my friend's labtop computer.
First of all, how advanced are you as a pc user? I won't waste your time with the simple ideas if you consider yourself somewhat advanced. (not that I am an expert here) You don't give a lot of info in your post about the steps you have gone through to recover your files. Some m/b or harddrives are very particular about the way they are hooked up.
Have you gone through all the different settings for master/slave/cs on the drive?
Have you tried all the open IDE connections on your m/b?
Have you tried to stand on your head while singing "blame it on the rain" by milli vanilli?
(just kidding)
I guess I should also ask how you know for sure it was a virus? Did your drive just die maybe? Does happen.

Hey tigert422 it sounds like the same problem I had, I formated my drive and fixed the bad sectors and I am using the drive again.

1. you could make a boot disc (not disk) and try accesing it from there.
2. Use debug to reset the partition info, If the drive in question is NTFS it becomes much harder if you had any security running against the drive.
I have many pro tools for access, I need info on drive, file system. Once you get the MFT it's a peice of cake.

Stocko  Thanks for referring me to this site. With every one's help here and other places I was to recovery the data needed . the following were deleted off of our network (HACKER'S PARADISE,REMOTE GRAB,HAPPY HACKER'S FLOODER,ADORN WORM,WINGATATING ON MIRC,BLAZER 5, BLA along with some other trojans which did alot of damage but we were able to recovery. My daughter has a chatserver which ususal says open about 12 hours per day and then when I started using the torrent , but I believe the culpit came from my daughter's end, but no big deal now. To cover both formats a got the FAT and the NTFS programs from runtime, called GetDataBack. thru trial and error and not knowing really what I was doing we got the job done. Stocko I used other programs but they were not as good as the one's at runtime that you referred me to . Thanks alot !! Have A Great Day!!

I would like to share one of my experiences. Some time back I lost my data due to hard drive failure. There were some important data, which if I haven’t got them back then it may have ruined my career. But I am thankful to Stellar Phoenix FAT $ NTFS (http://www.stellarinfo.com) – Data recovery software. I got some useful information about the software while googling. Got the link of the demo version, http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm. Downloaded the demo version and was able to see my recovered data. The software not only recovered my lost data but also recovered my lost partition,
Any body who want to recover their data can try this software. I am more than 100% satisfied with the result.
