Please forgive my ignorance, I don't know much about fta, but will it survive the upcoming n2 change? Does it work the same way, or is the encryption the same as dish? In other words, when the change happens will fta continue unscathed?

Nope, it will not have any channels either.

To be more specific, you will not receive any N2 channels.. BUT, the receiver will still work with all the other fta channels.

You need at least a 30" dish to get the true FTA sats. 18" dish only gets the DSS sats like B3LL, D15H and D1R3C7. Also, you should consider a H-H motor. Horizon to horizon rotor motors are a huge bonus because there are very few good channels on each of the FTA sats. They cost about $120 but its better than moving the dish around every 5 minutes. Plus, moving the dish without it is no easy task. These sats are much harder to find and involve skew adjustment. The H-H rotor finds them all automatically and tunes them in as you change the channels. It's a worthwhile investment to any FTA system. And just think, no switches or extra LNB's.
