A quick question......when Jtagging...does the receiver need to be plugged in and or turned on?......I just built a Jtag and connected to the propper wires which I soldered on to the pads at the bottom of the board...I have been very carefull in doing all this ,,checking all my solder connections....when using the Jkey program..it comes up with device unknown??? any help please.

Connecting the JTAG to the Receiver.
To extend the length of the JTAG, you can use a parallel (male/female) cable.
Unplug IRD from power outlet, insert the two AA batteries into the battery case.
Take the JTAG's ground (alligator clip) and attach it to a metal part of the ird case, anywhere grounded (usually a case screw works good).
Place the pogo pins on the correct solder pads located in the JTAG port and then plug IRD into power outlet.
Start up program (Jkeys). Jkeys will read and display all the information to your screen.
When connecting leads, always cut the power off by pulling the plug. NEVER CONNECT A CABLE WHILE IRD IS ON!
This is part of the full explanation to be found @ www.bellexpress.vu in the menu at the left, click how-to and then j-tag.

If it takes batteries, it's a buffered j-tag and you only need to have it plugged in, no batteries, you will need to turn it on. Don't forget to make sure the ground has a good connection. If not it will give you the same reading.
